About California Volunteers: 

California Volunteers, Office of the Governor is the state office tasked with engaging Californians in service, volunteering and civic action to tackle our state’s most pressing challenges while lifting up all communities. 

From the California Climate Action Corps, the country’s first statewide climate corps program, to the #CaliforniansForAll service initiative launched in response to COVID-19 to establish a volunteer corps to support the state’s response to emergencies and disasters, California Volunteers plays an integral role in tackling the state’s problems. 

Led by the state’s Chief Service Officer, Josh Fryday, California Volunteers is supported by a bipartisan 25-member Commission and a team of experts driven by a mission to empower and mobilize all Californians to volunteer and serve in their communities. 

Position Description: 

As California Volunteers launches exciting and innovative volunteer programs and strategies to meet emerging needs, Regional Program Managers (3 total, 1 per region) will ensure regional alignment across issue areas and program implementation. The Regional Program Manager’s role is to create an integrated service operations strategy in alignment with each program’s goals and objectives. Regional Program Managers will work closely with Regional Specialists and External Affairs Regional Managers to manager regional operations and ensure alignment. A map outlining the Inland Region can be found here: https://www.caloes.ca.gov/RegionalOperationsSite/Documents/EMA_ESC_OA_Assignments_Inland.pdf.  

 

Duties: 

55%  Development and Operationalization of Regional Strategies 

  • Design and execute a coordinated strategy for program implementation by region across issue area  
  • Determine new geographical locations to support and develop new partnerships 
  • Strategize with fellow Regional Program Managers on how to support programs in similar geographic areas 
  • Meet with Regional Specialists to align on regional implementation  
  • Develop regional partnerships, maintain primary relationships with regional contacts 
  • Ensure regional strategy folds into the program’s strategic plans, support the development and implementation of each Director’s vision program vision and strategy 
  • Remain informed of grants administered by California Volunteers in the assigned region and market new opportunities with regional contacts 
  • Coordinate with Program Directors and Regional Specialists to reduce repetitive outreach and communication with partners that span issue area and region 

30%  Reporting, Monitoring and Evaluation 

  • Create Key Performance Indicators to gauge the success of the regional approach  
  • Socialize Key Performance Indicators with Regional Specialists and provide ongoing support to measure performance 
  • Create milestones to gauge the success of the regional approach by issue area 
  • Produce regional insights that inform Executive Leadership and Program Director   
  • Coordinate with the Digital Liaison to prepare progress reports in Salesforce demonstrating progress against Key Performance Indicators and milestones 

10%  Collaboration with Regional Managers (External Affairs) 

  • Coordinate with External Relations Regional Managers regarding legislative priorities within a region 
  • Incorporate relevant legislative priorities into regional strategy 
  • Support legislative partner regional volunteer opportunities 
  • Engage coordinating Legislators and Legislative offices 

 

5%  Other Duties as Assigned 

  • Track new and ongoing relationship information into Salesforce 
  • Utilize available digital tools to achieve project success 
  • Support the Chief Program Officer, Program Directors or Deputy Directors with miscellaneous projects, when assigned 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree and 7 years of experience in the volunteer management, field operations, or other relevant field.   
  • Problem-solving skills, especially in situations of high stress 
  • Ability to generate a variety of reports and presentations displaying regional performance 
  • Strong written and oral communications skills. 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at one time, particularly those that are high-profile and time sensitive. 
  • Excellent working knowledge of the volunteer field, best practices, and key partners. 
  • Experience developing and maintaining complex partnerships. 
  • Strong computer skills. 
  • Ability to travel occasionally and work an irregular and sometimes demanding schedule. 
  • Ability to deploy short notice to disasters and work up to 12 hours per day, if necessary
