The Office of Climate Action, Sustainability and Resiliency’s (CASR) mission is to act with urgency to proactively mitigate climate change. Our objectives are to advance science-based strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions on a scale and timeline that align with the recommendations from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, cultivate resiliency in the face of potential climate change-related emergencies, secure an economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable city for generations to come, and ensure that the setting of goals and metrics and monitoring of results considers equity.

The Communications and Engagement Division collaborates with partners to ensure a coordinated, citywide approach to communicating about climate change, raising awareness and moving individuals and institutions toward action; providing CASR teams with communications and marketing support on projects and initiatives; and manages the Certifiably Green Denver small business assistance program, the Sustainable Neighborhoods Program, and outreach to community-based organizations.

CASR’s Communications and Engagement Division is seeking a Digital Marketing Content Coordinator. This position will play a vital role in leading the conversation on climate action, equity and sustainability in the City and County of Denver. This new position will develop creative and effective social and web content, community presentations and other graphic materials. The Marketing and Communications Coordinator will also support CASR’s Communications and Engagement Division in photography and videography. This position should use best practices for choosing the designs to create high-impact, compelling messaging to support a strong focus on equity and reaching underserved audiences. The Marketing and Communications Coordinator will also be responsible for coordinating and managing the divisions logos, imagery, and content library. This role is a key member of the CASR team, reporting to the Marketing and Communications Specialist.

The position will have a strong focus on visual storytelling for Climate Protection Fund (CPF) investments, ensuring that CPF projects, programs, initiatives, and their benefits shine through clear and compelling stories, dashboards, photos and social or web presence. Job duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Create high-impact, creative and innovative visual storytelling using best available research on what motivates people toward climate action.
  • Use a variety of visual storytelling strategies, including videos, photos, interactive dashboards, infographics, presentation design and more to share the stories of CASR and the CPF.
  • Oversee and expand CASR’s content library of logos, photos, videos, icons, graphics, etc.
  • Support staff in developing presentations, social media materials, web design, marketing campaigns, templates and reports.
  • Work with the City and County of Denver’s Marketing Services team to understand existing protocols and best practices, aligning CASR’s brand with the city’s brand.
  • Participate in relevant communication workgroups to ensure messages are shared throughout city departments and with partner organizations.

About you

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Knowledge of graphic design, photography, videography, social media platforms, website user experience, HTML, AP style and content development.
  • An understanding of best practices in visual storytelling geared toward simplifying messages and inspiring behavior change.
  • A mission-driven mindset and a desire to tackle climate action in Denver.
  • A strong emphasis on equity and inclusion, with either professional or lived experience working with people from diverse backgrounds, including communities of color and under-resourced communities.
  • An understanding of the concepts of institutional and structural racism and bias and their impact on under-resourced communities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and an ability to present to diverse audiences.
  • A creative and innovative approach to conveying information in a compelling manner.
  • A willingness to grow, innovate, analyze, and improve processes or procedures.
  • An ability to work with representatives from a variety of City agencies and external organizations in a collaborative manner.
  • Bilingual fluency in Spanish preferred

  • Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Visual Communications, Graphic Arts, Graphics Design, Multimedia Design or a related field of study.
  • Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of experience in graphic design or developing visual materials or signage design. Two of the three years must be experience in computer aided design and publication.
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements.
  • License/Certifications: None
