Parent and Community Relations Coordinator

The Parent and Community Relations Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the

design and development of supportive programming consistent with the needs of

Cardinal McCloskey Community Charter School.  

The Parent and Community Relations Coordinator will:

  • Serve as liaison between Cardinal McCloskey Community Services and the School, along

with the Principal and the social workers.

  • Identify and develop relationships with outside community organizations and resources

that can support the school community.

  • Attend staff meetings and professional development sessions.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with the charter school’s families as well as assist

in the implementation of all family programming including parent workshops and

seminars,   activities, support groups and volunteer opportunities in coordination with the school’s partner, Cardinal McCloskey Community Services.

  • Work to ensure that parents attend at least one parent workshop or activity quarterly

during the school year and once during the summer. 

  • Facilitate day, evening and Saturday parent workshop, seminars, activities and support

group meetings throughout the school year and summer.

  • Implement parent classes that seek to improve communication with their children and

further enhance the family relationship.

  • Coordinate and set up parent education workshops and support group meetings.
  • Communicate volunteer opportunities on a monthly basis.
  • Coordinate and execute of parent orientations and family events.
  • Conduct home visits as necessary
  • Collect data, attendance, and tracking parent participation hours
  • Serve as a liaison between the school and its parent/families.
  • Assist parents in communicating with teachers and enhancing the parent/teacher/school

relationship. 

  • Make personal contact with parents and families to encourage and support volunteer

engagement and family events.

  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding the school’s children, families,

staff, and program operations in accordance with the school’s policies    

  • Perform other duties as required

Required

Qualifications: 

  • Minimum Master’s Degree in social work, counseling or psychology
  • Appropriate NYS certifications.
  • Minimum of five years of experience as a social worker, school psychologist or guidance

counselor in an elementary school serving high needs students in an urban

environment

  • Ability to build cooperative relationships with school staff and families, community

organizations and school partners.

  • Bilingual Spanish/English a plus
  • Strong oral and written communication skills including the ability to address diverse

audiences. 

  • Strong computer and technology skills

Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and student information

systems.

  • Outstanding project management and organizational skills.
