Position Overview

A critical aspect of DCPS’ strategy is an investment in people, in all stages of their development. DCPS endeavors to get, grow, and keep its top talent, ensuring all school-based staff have opportunities for development. More specifically, the Office of Leadership Development works across teams and in schools to build the capacity and influence needed to develop and nurture leaders who are committed to equity and antiracist work in service of students and their families. Utilizing career ladders and pipelines as anchor structures, the Office provides development for leaders within their roles as well as for those who are aspiring to their next level of work.   

  • The Talent Acquisition and Retention division is responsible for the recruitment, selection, and retention efforts for educational aides, related service providers, instructional coaches, and teachers. This work includes nationwide recruitment to ensure that DCPS has excellent educators who are able to serve the diverse needs of our students.
  • The School Leader Recruitment, Selection, and Development division ensures DCPS schools are led by outstanding principals and assistant principals through robust recruitment efforts to inspire rising talent to pursue their next opportunity.   
  • The RISE division executes upon a $30 Million TSL grant in support of DCPS’ newly launched Rigorous Instruction Supports Equity (RISE) initiative, which aims to provide strategic recruitment of talented educators, equity-centered professional development, robust support for new teachers, and performance-based incentive awards at our highest-need schools. This team works to ensure cross-Office buy-in and coordination, grant compliance, and effective stakeholder engagement.
  • The Leadership Development division develops and executes instructional leadership programs and initiatives aimed at enabling school leaders to provide outstanding instruction to every student, every day in schools. This team works to build the leadership capacity of school leaders with a particular focus on instruction, data analysis, intervention, and developing capacity within the school. This team also triangulates qualitative and quantitative data to evaluate the effectiveness of leadership initiatives and to ensure alignment to leaders’ developmental needs.

The Coordinator, Office of Leadership Development is responsible for providing operational and analytical support to the Chief, Office of Leadership Development. The Coordinator will support the Chief to ensure that all critical workstreams receive the needed supports to execute our strategic plan.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supports the Teacher Recruitment and Selection team in implementing an aggressive and innovative national strategy for recruiting outstanding teachers to join DCPS.
  • Manages a portfolio of regions; and manages all communications, job postings, marketing, and other recruitment activities in those regions.
  • Collaborates with the team in executing a high-impact marketing and social media campaign, including designing and writing monthly subscriber communications, designing fliers, and writing compelling cultivation messages.
  • builds relationships with school leaders, teachers, and district staff to develop a deep understanding of the unique needs and cultures across the district.
  • Manages communication with potential and current teacher applicants.
  • Helps support logistics for application screening, phone and in-person interviews, and teaching auditions in order to select approximately 600 outstanding teaching candidates from approximately 3,000 applications.
  • Liaises with successful applicants, other departments within Central Office, and school leaders to ensure that applicants are well matched to schools and district staffing needs are met.
  • Responds effectively to requests from internal and external DCPS stakeholders.

  • Bachelor's degree and two to four years of related work experience.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Previous exposure to or experience in the education sector a plus.
  • Proven track record in managing and coordinating complex projects.
  • Results-orientation coupled with strong work ethics.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and detail-orientated.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills; and ability to navigate database systems and develop systems where needed.
  • Ability to work independently and be a self-starter; and comfort with ambiguity.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in quickly dealing with difficult situations and unexpected challenges.
  • Supports the work of other teams within the Office of the Chief of Leadership Development, as necessary, to meet the overall goals.
