Do you have an interest in stopping the "opidemic" in Utah? Southwest Prevention has developed a new VISTA project that focuses on expanding on the opioid misuse prevention efforts already in place and creating opportunities to develop new efforts! Prevent addiction and help us create new partnerships! Positions located in Cedar City and Beaver, Utah, the gateway to the Tushar Mountains and some of our nation’s most scenic national parks!


The VISTA member will conduct a community assessment by designing the plan, summarizing the results, and helping develop an opioid-specific prevention plan. The VISTA member will also build community awareness and mobilization. This will include developing a PR media plan by developing existing presentations, articles and PSAs. The VISTA member will help secure additional financial resources to support these opioid prevention and awareness efforts. 

While a degree is not required some college is preferred.

The State of Utah has designated 13 Local Substance Abuse Authorities (LSAA) to provide professional expertise in Substance Abuse Prevention & Education on a local level. Southwest Behavioral Health Center is the Local Authority for the Southwest Region of Utah. Southwest Prevention Services currently staff trained & licensed prevention specialists in all five counties, and have personnel of 8 prevention employees. These staff are educated and qualified through local, state and national trainings, and provide consulting and education to community leaders, educators, public agencies and citizens.

Level of Language Proficiency

There is no language perquisite, however we are looking for candidates with a desire to learn from other cultures and adapt to new environments. These positions are designed to be for individuals who are self-motivated and flexible in their work environment.

Candidates should be comfortable meeting people and contacting a variety of agencies to promote Southwest Prevention. Each day will be different from the next and allow the VISTA member to make this project his or her own.
