Council District 4:  The 4th Council District in the City of Los Angeles covers a variety of communities, from Sherman Oaks in the San Fernando Valley, the Hollywood Hills and Griffith Park, Silver Lake and Los Feliz, and communities stretching from Miracle Mile and Hancock Park.

The Job: The Office of Councilmember David Ryu is seeking a Legislative and Communications Deputy to serve in a dual capacity, working with the office’s policy and communications teams. The individual must have a desire to help make the City a better place to live, have a proactive attitude, be able to work well under pressure, and manage multiple priorities at once. The job will provide recent undergraduate or graduate students with an opportunity to learn about the council office’s legislative and communications/press processes while working on a number of pressing issues facing the City of Los Angeles.    

The Role: Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to: policy research and development, monitoring and staffing committee and council meetings, preparing briefings for the Councilmember and senior staff, drafting talking points and briefing papers, executing a daily social media strategy across multiple platforms, regular outreach and interaction with key community and stakeholder groups, working with a variety of press outlets, and helping with diverse needs as they arise in a fast-paced political environment.

The Candidate:  The ideal candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills, strong verbal and writing abilities, a passion for making meaningful, sustainable change in Los Angeles, and is ready to work in a high-energy, fast-paced and collaborative work environment. Candidates should hold a post-secondary degree and/or have previous work experience in political science, public policy, public administration, communications, media studies, economics, or law.
