Position Summary

The Center for the Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination (CPHD) promotes an environment in which all members of SDSU’s campus community can work, learn and live in an atmosphere free from all forms of bias, harassment and discrimination through the following activities: educating faculty, staff and students on SDSU policies and procedures relating to non-discrimination; providing advice and support to faculty, staff and students on issues of unlawful discrimination, harassment and sexual violence; overseeing compliance with federal and state laws including Title IX, Title VII, and FEHA; overseeing compliance with Executive Orders 1095, 1096 and 1097, including oversight of the formal complaint process; collaborating with other SDSU departments and representatives to provide a holistic approach to resolving discrimination and harassment issues; overseeing SDSU’s training programs relating to the prevention of sexual violence, sexual harassment and unlawful discrimination and harassment.

The Investigator supports the Center for the Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination by conducting complex investigations of complaints filed under Executive Orders 1096 and 1097. Additionally, the Investigator will provide program assistance and support, as directed, to ensure proactive and effective management of discrimination, harassment and retaliation cases. The Investigator will provide information to students, faculty, and staff to ensure relevant policies and programs are effectively implemented.

The Investigator will work collaboratively with the Director, CPHD, Director of Health Promotions, and the campus advocate to provide trainings to the campus community on topics relating to discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and Title IX. The Investigator will ensure that faculty searches comply with federal and state law and university policy and procedure, as well as conduct reference checks for finalists for tenured faculty positions in furtherance of the university’s Anti-Pass the Harasser Policy. On an as needed basis, the Investigator will conduct investigations on other workplace issues, including Whistleblower/Whistleblower retaliation complaints and employee misconduct

This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, at-will position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. but may vary based on operational needs.

Candidate Qualifications

·        Bachelor’s degree

·        Three years of experience investigating discrimination, sexual harassment, or other equivalently sensitive allegations

·        Demonstrated knowledge of best practices and methodologies for conducting investigations, including interviewing, gathering, and analyzing evidence, and writing investigation reports.

·        Working knowledge of Title IX and related law and policies

·        Working knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations, case law, and guidance related to sexual harassment in the educational and employment setting   

·        Demonstrated experience in exercising independent judgment in the assessment, investigation, and resolution of concerns 

Preferred Qualifications

·        Advanced degree in a relevant field, such as Education Administration, Counseling, Public Administration, Business Administration, Human Resources or Law

·        Higher Education and/or public sector experience

·         Three years of experience in conducting investigations in higher education, law enforcement or workplace environment

·        Working knowledge of CSU policies and procedures, specifically Executive Orders 1095, 1096, 1097, and 1098
