Description

The Youth Connector works for the Agenda for Children OST (Out of School Time) Initiative and Cambridge Youth Programs (CYP) working with the Upper Schools through CPS to support the 6th, 7th, 8th grade youth and their families to build an awareness and connection of OST opportunities and increase their access to these resources. Duties also include taking on a leadership role at their respective youth center sites by supporting young people and their families. 

Reporting to supervisors at the Agenda for Children OST Initiative and CYP, the Youth Connector’s duties and responsibilities include:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES AT CAMBRIDGE SCHOOLS UPPER CAMPUSES:

In partnership with school-based OST Specialists, coordinate efforts at Upper Schools to support all 6th, 7th & 8th grade youth and their families in building an awareness about OST opportunities and the role they play in middle school development:

  • Work as part of a Youth Connector team to become a knowledgeable source of information about the different OST programs that are available to youth
  • Lead efforts to identify and support individual youth through individualized meetings, small group meetings, and school-based support teams
  • Communicate with families of young people about the options and logistical process of overcoming barriers to attending opportunities
  • Build relationships with school-based staff to support the work of getting students connected and the importance of what students do outside school
  • Maintain bulletin boards, organize and help disseminate information about OST opportunities
  • Help to arrange and facilitate Summer Workshops and support the administration of the Summer Survey
  • Gather, maintain and share information connected with students’ OST participation and placement on shared spreadsheets for tracking purposes


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES AT YOUTH CENTERS:


Working closely with the youth centers’ leadership teams on a variety of special projects and initiatives while also implementing programmed activities for Middle School Youth Center Members. The Youth Connector will:

  • Promote and adhere to organizational values of growth and transformation
  • Plan for, design, and implement developmentally appropriate activities for middle school-aged youth
  • Attend and participate fully in staff meetings, planning sessions, site visits, staff development and training programs and activities as directed
  • Inform the Program Director of specific Youth Center member needs or concerns that are brought to his/her attention both through the schools and the youth centers
  • Be a positive role model to and develop meaningful relationships with Youth Center Members
  • Develop and maintain strong systems of family engagement that span both CPS and CYP
  • Meet with, brainstorm, plan and attend Middle School Activities Club activities and events throughout the year


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma/GED required, bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Excellent organizational skills and interpersonal skills
  • Experience or knowledge of Cambridge OST programs is strongly preferred; willingness to spend time actively learning about many programs is required
  • Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team and to work independently managing and meeting deadlines
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and internet applications (including Google Drive)
  • Experience and comfort working with social media tools and/or campaigns (Facebook, Instagram, Slack)
  • Understanding of middle school development, positive youth development techniques, the role of OST in that development, and the barriers to participation 

RATE:            $20.90-$24.77 per hour + excellent benefits
