CONSTITUENT SERVICES LIAISON (CASEWORKER)

IMMIGRATION 


SUMMARY:

As a caseworker, you will act as a liaison between constituents and government agencies or other organizations. You respond to requests for assistance and resolve issues through investigation, intervention, facilitation, and creative problem-solving. This position focuses on immigration-related issues.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

o Acts as the representative for the Congressman within his or her area of responsibility including answering casework correspondence, meeting with constituents, verbal communications with constituents, and serving as a liaison with federal, district, and local agencies;

o Handles casework assignments;

o Acts as a liaison to local, state and federal officials and other persons or groups to form effective relationships for the Congressman;

o Assesses casework for problems requiring legislative action and makes recommendations to the Director of Constituent Services and District Director; 

o Maintains up-to-date files on all cases and categories of information of importance to the office;

o Prepares periodic reports for the District Director on pending cases and district activities in his or her assigned issue areas;

o Continually screens active cases and acts as liaison with constituents to ensure that their cases are handled in a responsive manner;

o Manages assigned outreach;

o Performs staffing and advance duties for the Congressman 

o Attends meetings with and on behalf of the Congressman;

o Mentors interns; and 

o Performs other duties as assigned. 


EDUCATION (OR EQUIVALENT EXPERIENCE):

At least three years of experience; strong academic credentials. Alternatively, three years of related experience or training in immigration, politics, or government.




SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

o Strong oral and written communication skills;

o Thorough knowledge of legislative process and of House organization and procedures;

o Thorough knowledge of local, state and federal agencies and departments;

o Understanding of immigration and nonimmigrant visa processes;

o Temperament to communicate with a variety of personalities in a tactful, pleasant, and professional manner.

o Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with others;

o Ability to manage a large number of cases;

o Temperament to communicate with a variety of personalities in a tactful, pleasant, and professional manner;

o Thoroughness and careful attention to detail;

o Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment in fulfillment of casework responsibilities;

o Passion for public service;

o Works well under pressure and handles stress;

o Works a flexible schedule including long hours, nights and weekends; and

o Spanish (or other) language skills preferred.
