NYC Service, a division of the Office of the Mayor, promotes volunteerism, engages New Yorkers in service, builds volunteer capacity and mobilizes the power of volunteers and national service members to impact New York City's greatest needs. Our vision is to inspire and empower New Yorkers to serve each other through New York City’s nonprofits, businesses, and city agencies.


NYC Service launched in April 2009 in response to President Barack Obama's national call for volunteerism and a goal of engaging 100 million Americans in service by 2020. New York City was the first “City of Service” and since NYC Service launched, over 200 U.S. cities have joined the Cities of Service network.


The Public/Private Partnerships Director reports to the Chief Service Officer leading and managing fundraising (private and federal) as well as strategic corporate partnerships for NYC Service. This position oversees a staff of three full-time direct reports, 1 part-time volunteer, and 1 team intern. Key responsibilities include the following:


Fundraising, Donor Relations, & Stewardship:

• Actively work with the Chief Service Officer to implement a comprehensive development strategy to include corporate, foundation, and government grants, in support of key NYC Service programs

• Draft federal grant applications for current NYC Service AmeriCorps programs

• Research prospective target donors, developing proposals/applications, tracking, reports management

• Implement donor stewardship system that encompasses donor recognition and communication 

• Develop and maintain key long-term relationships with donors and prospects


Corporate Service:

• Oversee management of key corporate service programs/initiatives, including the Good for Me. Good for My City. Campaign; the Speed Mentoring Program and Annual Citywide Speed Mentoring Day; MLK Day; Be-In Kind; and the Mayoral Service Recognition Program

• Oversee the implementation of the Pro Bono/Skills-Based Resource Portal and associated trainings

• Provide expertise and support to corporate partners, as needed, in the formulation and/or implementation of employee volunteer engagement programs and/or days of service

• Lead the implementation of the NYC Corporate Volunteer Council 

• Oversee the implementation of the CBO Corporate Service Coalition

• Identify ongoing opportunities to position NYC Service as a thought leader in the corporate social responsibility/employee volunteer engagement space


Corporate Partnerships and Stewardship: 

• Manage portfolio of corporate relationships and cultivate new relationships with a goal of achieving a strong connection to, and sense of mission alignment with, NYC Service

• Engage corporate partners long-term and between tangible touch points through employee volunteer engagement opportunities

• Oversee the maintenance of systems and records for all corporate prospects and supporters


Qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s Degree, MA preferred but not required

• 5-10 years of relevant experience in a professional setting

• Strong knowledge of/experience in the NYC nonprofit sector

• Strong experience interfacing with and managing high-level leaders 

• Strong experience interfacing and building relationships with major donors

• Strong knowledge and skills in corporate social responsibility

• Strong outreach and relationship-building skills 

• Strong project design and management experience

• Excellent oral and written communication skills

• Experience in private sector a plus

• Ability to manage competing deadlines 

• Ability to work independently and effectively in teams
