Led by the state’s Chief Service Officer, Josh Fryday, California Volunteers is supported by a bipartisan 25-member Commission and a team of experts driven by a mission to empower and mobilize all Californians to volunteer and serve in their communities.

Position Description:

The Digital Media Support Specialist works under the supervision of the Digital Director and provides support to the Volunteer Department on tasks and projects associated with the Emergency Support Function (ESF) 17/COVID-19 response. The Specialist is tasked with a variety of projects associated with promoting California Volunteers communication and strategy related to ESF-17 through digital media, ensuring a vibrant social media presence. The Specialist also assists with executive support for the Chief Service Officer and other administrative duties associated with the state’s emergency response to COVID-19.

The Digital Media Support Specialist will be tasked with working on a broad range of governmental and managerial tasks as they relate to the ESF-17 disaster volunteer strategy, specifically the social and digital footprint for California Volunteers. The Digital Media Support Specialist will be responsible for overseeing COVID-19 disaster response/#CaliforniansForAll-related projects, conducting analysis and reviews of key projects and compiling and presenting recommendations to other staff on ways to increase the effectiveness of the digital engagement strategy around ESF-17.

Duties:

·        Produce videos, graphics, and other creative visuals for use on social media, the web, and print to support California Volunteers’ emergency response. This will require proficiency in Adobe Premier Pro, Hootsuite, social media monitoring tools, graphics and video production.

·        Provide support to any communications and engagement strategies associated with the response to COVID-19 and the Emergency Support Function (ESF) 17, including outreach and coordination with volunteer sites to share the impact of the #CaliforniansForAll disaster volunteer campaign.

·        Promote California Volunteers’ COVID-19 response efforts with postings of social media and web content associated with key organizational messaging around neighbor-to-neighbor outreach, safely volunteering during COVID-19, volunteering at food banks, etc.

·        Provide reports on social media and digital metrics pertaining to the state’s recruitment of volunteers to support COVID-19 response efforts.

·        On-site support at events and meetings for #CaliforniansForAll initiatives.

·        When requested, conduct on-line media searches and general research for departments on key social media and web related topics.

·        Support livestream #CaliforniansForAll events on Facebook and Twitter.

·        Provide staff support to the Chief Service Officer at events.

Desired Qualifications:

·        Strong written and oral communications skills

·        Ability to travel and work an irregular and often demanding schedule

·        Ability to manage multiple projects at one time, particularly those that are high-profile and time-sensitive

 Location:

This position's location is not limited to Sacramento, California. California Volunteers' office is located in Sacramento. However, California Volunteers will accommodate applicants who wish to work remotely temporarily as a result of COVID-19, or permanently. Therefore, California Volunteers will consider applicants throughout the state who are interested in this position.
