This position will be located in MCE’s San Rafael office, but the incumbent will be expected to travel between offices and periodically work at the Concord office, as needed.


The Legal Assistant, under direct supervision of the Manager of Compliance Operations or Legal Counsel, supports MCE’s Legal Team by performing a variety of legal and compliance duties that are vital to the operations and success of MCE. The incumbent will be expected to independently manage a variety of responsibilities and work in collaboration with other MCE teams as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities

·        The Legal Assistant I has no supervisory responsibilities.

·        The Legal Assistant II may supervise Legal Assistants I, Administrative Assistants, and/or intern positions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Illustrative Only)


·        Prepare contracts pursuant to MCE’s standard form

·        Interface with potential and existing counterparties to ensure finalization of and compliance with contracts

·        Administrative follow-up with vendors regarding executed contracts

·        Implement and refine the contracts management process

·        Prepare and manage materials that are presented to the Board for contracts

·        File digital documents on MCE server

·        Develop MCE responses to Public Records Act (PRA) requests, including review of documents

·        Prepare reporting to meet regulatory and legal requirements


·        Manage, prepare and submit compliance reports

·        Prepare and maintain compliance documentation and reports

·        Maintain complex calendars and tracking for compliance filings

·        Monitor incoming compliance matters through a dedicated email account

·        File digital and hard copy documents on MCE server

·        Prepare reporting to meet regulatory and legal requirements

·        Coordinate with Public Affairs Team on external deliverables


·        Arrange and coordinate meetings

·        Prepare for and set-up meetings: AV equipment, Conference line set-up, Agendas, Meeting materials

  Food and beverages, as needed

·        Manage calendars and coordinate among staff, consultants, Board of Directors, and vendors

·        Serve administrative and project-based needs of team members

·        Maintain and improve processes for file maintenance, document tracking, and management

·        Prepare documents (Word), spreadsheets (Excel) and presentations (PowerPoint)

·        As assigned, assist with the implementation of MCE’s Strategic Plan

Minimum Qualifications

Experience/Education: Legal Assistant II

In addition to the experience and education requirements for Legal Assistant I, the Legal Assistant II requires a paralegal certification from an accredited, American Bar Association (ABA) approved school OR 24 semester credits in paralegal studies from an accredited school followed by one year working in a law office providing administrative and legal support OR a Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited school.
