Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell is seeking a highly motivated attorney to join her team as an Assistant Attorney General in the Office of the Attorney General’s Non-Profit Organizations/Public Charities Division to investigate and enforce charities laws, including fiduciary standards and fraudulent or deceptive charitable fundraising.  The Division is responsible for protecting and promoting the public’s interest in the Commonwealth’s public charities that range in size and complexity from our largest universities and health care systems to small, local human-service organizations.  The Division ensures transparency and accountability in the charitable sector, enforcing laws related to conflicts of interest, wrongful self-dealing, misuse of charitable assets, fraudulent or deceptive fundraising, and registration and financial reporting by charitable organizations and fundraisers.

Primary Duties:  The Assistant Attorney General will conduct investigations; litigate cases; review matters involving statutory notice of significant transactions, dissolutions, proposed changes in uses of charitable funds, charitable trusts and bequests under will; participate in community and charitable-sector engagement, including through speaking engagements; and contribute to policy development and Division research priorities.

Position Requirements:  Applicants must have strong written and oral communication skills; the ability to quickly grasp, organize, and distill complex business and financial information; the ability to oversee multiple complex and challenging matters; demonstrated sound judgment; the ability to think on their feet and work well with others; and be a member in good standing of the Massachusetts bar.  The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a commitment to working for the public interest, a connection to the people and communities we serve, and an interest in supporting a respectful, diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment.

A minimum of two years of civil litigation experience is preferred.  Facility in making public presentations, general knowledge of fiduciary standards and charities law, and experience litigating in different courts (superior, probate, federal) are pluses.
