About the Role:

Working in the New York City Mayor’s Press Office at City Hall, reporting to the Mayor’s Press Secretary, deputy press secretaries are responsible for media monitoring, responding to media inquiries, preparing senior administration officials for media interviews, and planning media events designed to communicate accurate, timely information to the public.

Responsibilities Will Include:

• Handle media inquiries and serve as a spokesperson for City Hall;

• Draft media advisories, press releases and other briefing documents for the media and public;

• Execute rapid response communication with reporters to ensure information that is disseminated to the public is accurate;

• Work with the broader communications team to arrange press conferences and interviews with senior administration officials, including the mayor;

• Oversee media relations of agencies within the deputy’s portfolio;

• Work non-traditional hours and be on-call regularly, including weekends, holidays and emergency situations;

• Operate in a fast-paced environment, with a high level of professionalism, often under short deadlines and in high-pressure situations.


• Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years of media relations, public policy or journalism experience required

• Experience [on-the-record] preferred

• Advanced writing skills required

• Proficiency with digital and social media preferred

• Ability and experience to balance multiple responsibilities and deadlines
