Position Title: Professional Development Specialist: Equity and Family Partnerships

NW REGIONAL ESD'S MISSION STATEMENT: In partnership with the communities we serve, Northwest Regional ESD improves student learning by providing equitable access to high quality services and support.

 GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

As a champion for racial equity and social justice, the position supports school district leaders and educators in their planning and implementation of the Oregon Student Success Act by ensuring that the voices of traditionally marginalized communities are centered throughout the planning and implementation process. The position accomplishes this through a mix of 1-on-1 coaching, mentoring, and leading professional development in the areas diverse community engagement and culturally relevant instruction. This position works closely with the Director of Equity and Family Partnerships, Director of Communications, the Instructional Services Professional Learning Team, NWRESD teaching staff and Administration, along with other community partners. 

  QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: 

  1. Master’s Degree or equivalent training and/or professional experience in curriculum design, instructional delivery, education, counseling, social work, communications, or a related field. 
  2. Hold or be eligible to obtain an Oregon Teaching or Administrative license through Teachers Standards & Practices Commission (TSPC), or alternatively, possess relevant professional experiences in a K-12 education setting. 
  3. Strong knowledge of theory, current research, and emerging promising practices in race equity education as applied to instruction, anti-racist curriculum, and culturally responsive practices.
  4. Three or more years of experience creating and facilitating effective professional development in race equity in meetings and workshop settings. 
  5. Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills. This includes the ability to express complex ideas with clarity and precision both orally and in writing. 

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Include the following. Performs some or all of the following tasks. Other Duties may be assigned.   

  1. Develop, coordinate, and deliver race equity and diverse community engagement professional learning services to educators within the 20 school districts in Columbia, Clatsop, Tillamook and Washington Counties. This includes both specifically prepared curriculum and presentations to meet specific requests of component school districts, other education partners, and internal programs/departments.
  2. Develop, coordinate, and deliver antiracist pedagogy to a variety of internal audiences at NWRESD to include instructional staff in NWRESD’s programs and services.
  3. Contribute to and collaborate with the Equity Professional Development Specialist in the development, coordination, and implementation of a comprehensive professional learning model in the area of race educational equity and antiracism. 
  4. Provide support to NWRESD leadership and ESD employees on issues of race educational equity and antiracism intersectionality in educational programs and departments.
  5. Participate as a member of the NWRESD Leadership team.
  6. Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with staff and customers at all organizational levels. 
  7. Locate, curate and develop resources that support antiracist teaching and be able to train teachers how to use effectively in classroom instruction. 
  8. Requires travel throughout the region and flexibility in scheduling off site training both in person and virtually.
  9. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
