The Vice President is responsible for the Division of Student Affairs and serves as a member of the President's Cabinet. He/she incorporates innovative practices into plans and strategies and collaborates with other College and University executives, and outside organizations as needed, to develop appropriate policy and acquire resources. He/she is a dynamic leader of an executive team responsible for personnel, budget, operations, and communications.
The City College of New York invites applications for the position of Vice President for Student Affairs. Reporting to the President, the Vice President is responsible for leadership in all areas under the jurisdiction of the Office of Student Affairs, providing the vision for the programs that will enhance the student experience at the College, overseeing strategic planning reflecting that vision, and supervising staff responsible for implementing those plans. The Vice President also oversees a close working relationship between the Student Affairs functions and the Office of the Provost/Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs to ensure coordination in all aspects of activities related to the student experience at the College. The Vice President is the primary liaison with student government organizations, and represents the College at all City University functions related to student affairs.
The Office of Student Affairs comprises of the following departments: Office of Student Services; Judicial Conduct; Career Center; Accessibility Center; Wellness and Counseling Center; International Students and Scholar Services; Office of Student Life and Leadership Development; Athletics and Recreational Sports; Child Development and Family Services Center; Student Services Corporation; Auxiliary Enterprises Corporation; Veterans Affairs; Volunteer Emergency Squad. The Office of Student Affairs also oversees on-campus residence (the Towers) and off-campus housing.
This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.
The position requires an incumbent with extensive experience in supervising each of the areas under the jurisdiction of this Office, including the management of a diverse staff. The successful candidate must demonstrate a record of excellence in creative leadership and outstanding management of staff (approximately 40) and functions in the areas of student affairs in a large, complex college with organizational characteristics and a student body similar to The City College. S/he must possess excellent written and verbal communications skills, and be able to demonstrate a record of developing excellent interpersonal relationships with students, faculty, staff, and administrators of a college. The successful candidate must possess at least eight (8) years' experience in a position with similar functions. An appropriate doctoral-level degree is preferred.
