Office of Special Investigation – Multiple Locations

Legal Support Analyst

Application Deadline is March 26, 2021

The New York State Office of the Attorney General is seeking a talented candidates for the position of Legal Support Analyst (LSA) in the newly created Office of Special Investigation (OSI) in Albany, Buffalo, New York City and Rochester. In June 2020, the New York State Legislature passed legislation codifying and expanding the Governor’s previous Executive Order, granting the OAG the jurisdiction to investigate and potentially prosecute incidents when a police officer or peace officer causes the death of a person. The LSA position provides a unique and exciting opportunity to join a team of experienced felony and homicide prosecutors, legal support staff, and detective investigators who are working together to enhance transparency, strengthen public trust in the criminal justice system, and engage and collaborate with external stakeholders and partners.

LSAs serve a critical role in the bureau and perform both investigative and legal support functions. Specifically, LSAs are responsible for conducting investigative assignments such as drafting subpoenas, reviewing documents, searching law enforcement databases, assisting in writing reports, and reviewing case footage. In addition, LSAs perform legal support tasks, such as processing documents to be turned over during discovery, preparing demonstrative exhibits, and aiding attorneys in court proceedings. LSAs also conduct independent research assignments on issues that arise from specific cases in the Bureau. Please note that this is not an attorney position and LSAs do not typically conduct legal research.

This is a full-time, entry-level position. A Bachelor’s degree is required for the position. Additionally, the individual selected for the LSA position must have excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking skills. The ability to analyze and synthesize large amounts of information, excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail and accuracy, as well as proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and social media, are also required. A two (2) year commitment is required for this position.
