Felony Assistant District Attorneys handle felony cases including grand jury presentation and trial in cases which arise and are prosecuted within Ulster County. The ADA handles all phases of the prosecution which include arraignment, discovery, calendar appearances, motion practice, witness preparation, legal research, pre-trial hearings, and trials. The ADA may be required to participate in investigations and advise law enforcement personnel on legal questions or issues. S/he reports to a managing attorney, and develops a professional working relationship with law enforcement, judges and court personnel, and the local defense bar. The ADA may be assigned to other cases or projects at the discretion of the District Attorney or managing attorneys. All ADAs are required to adhere to the highest ethical standards in their professional and personal conduct.

Requirements: Must be a J.D. graduate of an accredited United States Law School and licensed in the State of New York or awaiting results from the NYS bar exam to be known within 3 months or less. Residency in Ulster County will be required within a reasonable length of time. Excellent writing and research skills are necessary. Prior felony criminal trial experience preferred. All applicants undergo security clearance. If the office is interested in an interview, writing samples, references, and other requirements may apply.

Salary and benefits: $81,000 to $107,000. Ulster County provides excellent medical, dental and vision benefits to its employees, and vacation and sick time based upon time in service. Employees are also enrolled in the New York State retirement system, and may participate in other benefits, including using Deferred Compensation.
