The San Mateo County's Human Services Agency is seeking well-qualified individuals for the position of Children's Services Social Work Supervisor. We currently have one position in Intake and another position in the Children and Family Services (CFS) Division Training Unit.

The Intake Social Work Supervisor plans, assigns, reviews and evaluates the work of a unit of Social Workers and provides direction to subordinate staff. The Social Work Supervisor holds conferences with staff to discuss policies, regulations and problems related to social welfare programs; reviews case service plans and court reports; coordinates work with other units providing related services; confers with and provides information to other public and private agencies; trains new workers in casework techniques; maintains a flexible schedule in order to provide back-up emergency response on nights, weekends and holidays; and provides services in the most difficult cases or when unit workload is heavy. This position may require an alternative work schedule.

The Children's Services Social Work Supervisor over the Training Unit will provide specialized induction and on-going training for new social worker staff. In addition, they will plan, assign, review and evaluate the work of a unit of Social Workers and provide direction to subordinate staff.

 

Both positions are responsible for:

 

  • Training staff, employee performance, counseling employees and effectively recommending initial corrective action and other personnel decisions
  • Organizing and facilitating conferences with staff to discuss policies, regulations and problems related to social welfare programs; and reviewing case service plans and court reports
  • Training new workers in casework techniques
  • Providing services in the most difficult cases or when unit workload is heavy
  • Attending and participating in policy teams and other Agency meetings
  • Other duties as assigned


The ideal candidates will have:

 

  • 3 years of experience performing a full range of professional Social Worker duties as a Social Worker III
  • Strong leadership skills to direct the work of and motivate a team of social workers
  • Knowledge and experience with the mandates of a child protection services agency, including risk assessment, Emergency Response, Family Maintenance, Family Reunification, Permanent Placement, Adoption and Foster Home Licensing
  • Knowledge of Section 300 of the Welfare and Institutions Code and Juvenile Court Procedures; strong knowledge of CWS/CMS, Safe Measures and SDM
  • Ability to manage multiple, competing project demands

 

Minimum qualifications include completion of a Master's degree in Social Work from an accredited college or university that included an internship, and two years of experience performing a full range of professional social worker duties, including responsibility for a long-term caseload, development of service/treatment plans, monitoring compliance through home/field calls and other personal contact, modification of treatment plans as needed/required, and authority to impose/recommend sanctions for non-compliance, impacting benefits or services.

 

Substitution: A Master's degree from an accredited college or university in a Counseling program emphasizing Marriage, Family and Child Counseling or Marriage and Family Therapy that included an internship or supervised field work, AND completion of one additional year of qualifying case management/work experience that included responsibility for a long-term caseload; development of service/treatment plans; monitoring compliance through home calls, field calls and other personal contact; modification of treatment plans as needed/required; and authority to impose/recommend sanctions for non-compliance, impacting benefits or services (i.e. case closures, terminating benefits and or program participation).
