Job Description

As Grants Writer, you will work closely with municipalities and our internal teams to write and facilitate private foundations, state and federal grants that helps an identified group of municipalities. 

Essential Role and Responsibilities

• Support municipalities grants team in managing and tracking grants program.

• Support and collaborate with municipalities staff to develop and submit grant proposals. This includes creating proposal narratives, data measures, budgets, and other necessary documentation for the applications, if needed.

• Identification of funding sources, analysis of proposal guidelines and regulations and offering advice and guidance to municipalities.

• Engage in grant solicitation counseling in particular the following functions:

o Conduct pre-award risk assessment and evaluation

o Review and apply merits and eligibility

o Make recommendations for modifications or additional considerations

o Apply existing agency policies

o Assess and review risk and eligibilities; ensure the grantee is meeting eligibility requirements of the grant in question

o Make appropriate recommendations to the municipalities

• Promotes a positive work environment that encourages individuals and groups to achieve their goals in the organization.

• Other tasks which may be required by operational needs.

Requirements for the position

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree required from an accredited University.

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in grant writing, program planning and development with a demonstrated successful record in securing grants from a wide variety of funders. 

• Government experience and Grants Management Certificate Programs is a plus.

Skills and Competencies

• Ability to write planning documents, reports, grant applications and business correspondence.

• Handles complex and confidential information with discretion 

• Ability to meet deadlines, develop realistic action plans and measurable outcomes, create program budgets, prioritize, and plan workload, and use time efficiently.

• Ability to interpret scientific, technical, and financial reports and government and legal documents.

• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

• Communicates effectively and professionally in both a written and oral form in English and Spanish  

• Organized and accessible, maintains efficient workspace, manages time well.

• Interacts in a mature, tactful, and flexible manner with team members and external stakeholders

• Establishes and maintains positive, effective working relationships with co-workers and consultants, among others.

• Learns and adapts to dynamic demands inherent to the job and work environment.
