About Us

DC START (District of Columbia Student Assessment and Resilience Team) is a school-based mental health service comprised of masters-level clinicians who work with children and youth and their families. The clinicians conduct a diagnostic assessment using a multi-disciplinary instrument (the Well-Being Assessment Instrument, or WellBAT), provide appropriate early intervention treatment that is research-based, develop and monitor integrated service plans (with the aid of an inter-agency database, CHARI), and develop discharge plans that include follow-up services. Serving children and youth, DC START clinicians are available during and after school hours and throughout the summer. The DC START program is housed out of the DC Government's Office of the Deputy Mayor for Education and is one of the evidence-based programs disseminated by ICSIC (Interagency Collaboration and Services Integration Commission)
