About Us

Water District 19 provides water resource management with an emphasis on conservation to deliver a safe and reliable supply of high quality water to meet present and future needs in an environmentally sensitive and economically responsible way.

The District was established in 1925 and is the largest public water district on Vashon Island. It provides drinking water for approximately 6 square miles and serves a population of about 3,500 via 1474 connections. Service is accomplished through 5 groundwater wells, 2 surface water sources, an emergency intertie, a water treatment plant, 1.725 million gallons of water storage and 37.4 miles of mains ranging from 3/4" to 16" in diameter.

Since Vashon streams are largely aquifer-fed, most of our water supply is from our sole source aquifer rather than directly from rainfall. Good stewardship of our ecosystem and conservation of our precious water supply is central to our management principles.

The District has 5 full time employees. WD19 has an annual budget of approximately $1.3m.
