shiree is a challenge fund established by the UK Department for International Development (DFID) in partnership with the Government of Bangladesh with an objective to lift one million extreme poor households out of poverty by 2015. shiree in Bengali means ‘steps’ or ‘ladder’ to portray shiree’s aim of lifting ‘households’ out of poverty in steps. It was designed to support Bangladesh in meeting the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) 1 to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger. We provide grants to Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) to implement poverty reduction projects working with the extreme poor in Bangladesh.
