Chicago Police Department
The Chicago Police Department (CPD) is the second largest police department in the United States. Every day CPD's officers enforce laws and support the safety and rights of all residents of Chicago in an effort to make it the safest big city in the country. Following a period of intense scrutiny and international attention, CPD is undergoing a historic period of change to better support and train officers, promote a culture of accountability, and build trust with Chicago's communities. It is hoped that this period will lead to a significant advance in addressing violence in Chicago as well as enhancing trust within the communities that the Department serves. As part of this development process, the City of Chicago will enter into a court-enforceable consent decree with the Illinois Office of Attorney General that will lay out a series of specific changes to be made over the next several years. CPD is also launching a multi-year strategic plan early in 2018.
