Our Program
The Bard Graduate Programs in Sustainability (GPS) offers four different master's programs: an MBA in Sustainability, an M.S. in Environmental Policy, an M.S. in Climate Science and Policy, and an M.Ed. in Environmental Policy.
The Bard MBA in Sustainability fully integrates sustainability into a core business curriculum. In fact, it does this so well that it was actually named the #1 Green MBA by the Princeton Review. In the Bard MBA, students work in collaborative teams learning how to build businesses and not-for-profit organizations that combine economic, environmental, and social objectives into an integrated bottom line that creates not only healthier businesses, but also a more sustainable world. Graduates of the Bard MBA transform existing companies, start their own, and pioneer a new paradigm of doing business that meets human needs, protects and restores the Earth's systems, and treats all stakeholders with justice and respect.
Bard's M.S. Environmental Policy and M.S. Climate Science & Policy uniquely integrate an extended professional internship with a rigorous core curriculum. These programs develop leaders who "change the rules" in government, business and non-profits. We are living at an extraordinary moment in human history: Can we meet the needs of soon-to-be ten billion people in a world in which we are already fighting over water, oil, topsoil, forests, fish and biodiversity, and which is getting hotter all the time? Graduates of the Bard M.S. programs are leading the work to rewire the world with clean energy, reimagine the global food system, redesign cities across the planet, regenerate forests, grasslands, lakes and oceans, reinvent transportation, and in doing all this, provide for human needs sustainably.
Bard's M.Ed. in Environmental Education prepares educators to build out the in-school, after-school, summer, farm, NGO, science center, and museum education and programming needed to engage today’s youth. As kids have less and less opportunity for free-play in nature, and with screen time dominating their lives, the need for environmental education has become more critical than ever. This newer program is perfect for individuals passionate about bringing the lessons of nature - about fundamental interconnectedness, independent inquiry, and character - to children otherwise left behind.

What Our Students Say
"The Bard MBA fits my lifestyle. I live in Atlanta while working full-time for a major trauma center and safety net hospital system. The once-a-month, low-residency program allows me to have the best of both worlds—an elite education and a life."
Martin Freeman, MBA in Sustainability ‘18"With my background in human rights and law, I joined the Bard MBA program to expand my toolkit. The program continues Bard's tradition of egalitarian engagement with world issues while providing a concrete focus in sustainability management. This preparation gives me ready and applicable skill sets for problem solving in the 21st century.”
Beatrice Ajaero, MBA in Sustainability ‘17While the M.S. gave me the technical know-how and scientific expertise to analyze and diagnose problems, the MBA gave me the business lexicon and skills to find solutions to those problems. The dual MS/MBA has been invaluable as a my work as a corporate sustainability consultant. The dual MS/MBA is a versatile, broad-ranging and helpful - if intense - academic path that I'm thankful I chose to tread."
Rochelle March, MS/MBA ‘15
