Our Program

Columbia School of Social Work — leading social work education and research since 1898.

Offering the first program of its kind in the United States, the Columbia School of Social Work has been at the forefront of the field for more than 100 years. Today, our students are actively engaged in making a meaningful difference in lives and communities through intensive academic study, groundbreaking research, and unparalleled field experiences.

The MSW program at Columbia University prepares students for entry into advanced social work practice. Our curriculum emphasizes:

promoting social and economic justice,

particularly for populations at risk;

practicing with diverse populations; and evaluating practice outcomes.

As a first year student, you will take foundational courses on generalist social work practice. As a second-year student, you can choose from four concentration areas and seven fields of practice. You can learn more about our MSW Pathways on our website.
