Our Program

Our Values: Health as a Right, Strength Through Diversity, Think Forward, Impact First

Who We Are:

A network of transformational leaders across all health sectors, with a legacy of impact and innovation at the local and global level. For more than 75 years, our community of faculty, students and 15,000 alumni have put their education and skills into practice to improve the health and welfare of our communities, the state and the world.

We sit on a campus with a commitment to social justice that empowers us to lead change. Our UC Berkeley campus provides students with unique opportunities to collaborate with leaders in key science and humanities disciplines, including engineering, computer science, social welfare, public policy, journalism, international development, business, law and more.

As part of the UC system, Berkeley Public Health has access to unequaled networks across the state and worldwide, including partnerships with the world-class medical campus of UCSF. Our Bay Area location allows us to collaborate with businesses, entrepreneurs, policy makers, organizations, and equity advocates to be at the forefront of innovations in integrated health delivery, healthy communities and health policies.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention recognizes Berkeley Public Health as one of nine health promotion and disease prevention research centers around the nation.

What Our Students Say

  • One thing that makes Berkeley SPH unique are the courses that reflect values of health equity and social determinants of health, which address the need to improve health at the level of policies and institutions.

Melissa Galinato, MPH in Health and Social Behavior ‘20
  • I came here so I could learn the epidemiologic tools to carry out rigorous research and analyze the effects of policy on health. Not only did my time at Berkeley equip me with these skills and more, but it also solidified my passion to work in the intersection of research and policy.

Bethany Lee, MPH in Epidemiology/Biostatistics ‘11
  • I chose UC Berkeley because of its world-class program, strong vision of social justice and central location to healthcare research and innovation. The Health Policy and Management program at Berkeley is incredibly robust. The program encourages enrolling in electives outside of Berkeley Public Health, so our education is diverse in content and experience.

Tia Gangopadhyay, MPH in Health Policy and Management ‘20
