The Urban Studies Programs (USP) is a unique interdisciplinary set of Master's level and PhD degree programs designed to prepare students for professional work, research, and scholarship on urban society that draws on 25 plus faculty from 13 disciplines and 6 schools/colleges at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM), an R1 public research university. USP provides students with a broad understanding of urban society and trains them in research techniques appropriate to the study of metropolitan communities. The Master's level course of study stresses the understanding of social processes and the analysis of social and economic policies affecting cities, while the PhD program emphasizes history, research methodology, and social science theory, and prepares students to conduct sophisticated research in the field of urban studies.
