Our Program
Future Generations University equips students to lead participatory community change with a model of development proven over a 30 year history. Accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, courses are taught in small, live online classes by expert faculty and renowned practitioners. Students benefit from a hands-on education led by real world experience that advances their career and deepens their impact. Upon graduation, 93% of students expand their work to larger areas, 90% receive a promotion, 79% enjoy a salary increase, and 68% start new programs or organization.
The Master of Arts in Applied Community Development is rigorous and innovative, enabling students not only to succeed in their community projects but to transform local knowledge into truly scalable change. Students will deepen their understanding and practice of community development, ultimately fostering resilience in their community and redefining the future of participatory development.
Future Generation University delivers an education that meets students where they are, ensuring they gain knowledge and skills, not debt. Tuition is just $16,000, with opportunities for funding available for Returned Peace Corps Volunteers and AmeriCorps Volunteers. With personalized learning in a hybrid environment, the distributed learning model offers students the flexibility to complete programs while working and living in their community. Students can earn credit for what they already know with a Prior Learning Assessment or while completing an internship. Additionally, students can transfer in preexisting credits. Taken together, these measures ensure students can earn a Master's degree quickly, affordably and without disrupting their career.
The world’s most applied community development program, students leave as practitioners able to foster resilience necessary to meet today’s challenges.

What Our Students Say
The Segal Education Award was matched dollar-for-dollar, making this graduate program very affordable. I was given the opportunity to earn a Master’s degree by completing a community service project of your choice, in a community of your choice, while being given the money and tools to do it.
ASHLEY AKERS, Master of Arts in Applied Community Development ‘17Future Generations University incorporates what we like to call in Peace Corps a “I do, we do, you do” approach through community labs. It allows students to be guided by the instructors while applying learned skills to real life issues. The labs are my favorite aspect of the masters program because it’s a unique approach to learning.
