We are currently in search of a Chief Development Officer for a Social Service Organization. The position is based in Oakland, CA. This is a permanent, full-time position.

POSITION TITLE: Chief Development Officer

SALARY: $130K - $160K

Is This Your Dream Job? As the Chief Development Officer, you will be an integral part of the organization’s leadership team. You will take the lead in developing the fundraising strategy and securing funding for the organization. Overseeing the Development team, you will manage and guide all development efforts in creating a diverse platform of individual, corporate, and foundation donors, as a means to meet the fundraising goals for the organization. In this pivotal leadership role, you will represent the organization to all donors, at community events, and meetings. You will approach all that you do with a holistic perspective and find inspiration in supporting the next generation.

Our Ideal Candidate:

·        8 to 15 years of continued nonprofit development, fundraising, and major gift experience; 5+ years of leadership and management experience required

·        Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree, a plus

·        Experience working with databases, such as Salesforce and Trello

·        Proven ability to acquire major gifts at the $100K - $250K level; fiscal management experience a plus

·        Passion for working in education and working with underprivileged youth

·        Preferred knowledge of the Bay Area and national philanthropic landscape, especially in the education and/or public media sector

·        Superior writing and verbal communications, including public speaking

·        Comfortable relating to donors at all-levels, volunteers, clients and external contacts; working in a blended office environment

How You Will Spend Your Day:

·        Actively strategize solicitations and secure major gifts from individual, corporate, and foundation donors to successfully meet yearly fundraising goals

·        Consistently managing a portfolio of 30+ major gift prospects at all levels, as well as building strong relationships with prospective and current donors

·        Lead and mentor Development staff, offering guidance and expertise on fundraising strategy and best practices

·        Guide team in identifying various engagement strategies to educate potential prospects and build out an already established giving fund

·        Serve as a member of the Executive team, helping with organizational growth, implementing best practices, and creating an effective fundraising strategy 

·        Serve as the “face” of the organization and as a direct line of communication for all donors; educate community members on the organization’s current and future programs and services

·        Collaborate with Marketing and Communications team on event planning opportunities, as a way to develop a corporate engagement pipeline

·        Attend and present updates on fundraising efforts to the Board

·        Stay knowledgeable and current on issues around social justice and cultural topics affecting young people
