Sanctuary for Families is New York's leading service provider and advocate for survivors of domestic violence, sex trafficking and related forms of gender violence. Every year, Sanctuary empowers thousands of adults and children to move from fear and abuse to safety and stability, transforming lives through a comprehensive range of services. We provide a range of wrap-around services to help survivors rebuild their lives in the aftermath of abuse, and work to end gender violence through three key strategies: direct services, outreach and training, and systems-change advocacy. Our services are available in 11 locations throughout New York City.

POSITION OVERVIEW

This position supports agency-wide efforts in expanding survivor leadership involvement in all aspects of the agency. The Coordinator engages in group work, advocacy, community organizing, and policy work that supports the agency's advocacy and outreach agendas. The Coordinator will also help initiate the agency's first worker cooperative business. This position is based within the Clinical Department in Manhattan, but works with staff and survivor leaders agency-wide.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Facilitates and coordinates weekly survivor leadership group meetings, trainings, alumni meetings, workshops, conferences, and other events
• Provides supervision, support and coaching to survivor leaders
• Provides leadership in expanding the Survivor Leadership Institute throughout the agency
• Assists in the development and implementation of a worker owned cooperative business in partnership with a worker coop incubator
• Coordinates with staff and outside organizations on survivor leaders' involvement in outreach events, conferences, social media campaigns and/or other outreach and advocacy work
• Creates materials needed to support the work of survivor leadership including but not limited to a database on survivor leaders' special interests and availability, outreach referral list, etc.
• Develops protocols on integrating survivor leadership throughout the agency including but not limited to recruitment, referral process, content of training, types of workshops, etc.
• Assesses potential clients for recruitment into the Survivor Leadership Institute
• Assists in recruiting and engaging survivor leaders and their participation in meetings, outreach, and other events
• Maintains accurate records and utilizes database systems to track individual case notes, outreach and advocacy events
• Performs any other department or agency related duties or special projects as directed
• Maintains flexible working hours. Evenings are required

REQUIREMENTS

• LMSW or equivalent clinical Masters strongly preferred but lived experience will be considered in lieu of academic qualifications
• Fluency in both English and Spanish required
• Must be knowledgeable in working with diverse communities, religious, class, disabilities, and cultural backgrounds as well as people of all gender identities and sexualities
• Experience working in communities impacted by domestic violence, trafficking, and other forms of gender violence.
• Experience with trauma informed group work, community organizing, policy and advocacy work.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team with other staff across departments and outside organizations
• Excellent analytical skills and organizational skills
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and adhere to deadlines
• Strong verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills
• Knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
