                               GOVERNMENT GRANT ACCOUNTANT

The National Center for Victims of Crime, a nonprofit organization that advocates for victims’ rights trains professionals who work with victims, and serves as a trusted source of information on victims' issues is seeking a full-time Government Grant Accountant, to work out of our Arlington, VA office.

The Government Grant Accountant is responsible for maintaining financial, accounting and grant support services in order to meet the needs of the organization and its grantors/funders. 

This position is responsible for providing assistance in maintaining cash/spending controls and providing analysis in support of the various programs. This position is also responsible for the operations of post-award grant administration and related accounting duties. Working closely with the Program Directors and finance team, the Government Grant Accountant will focus heavily on budgeting, compliance, and variance analysis functions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with Grant Managers on grant proposals, with an emphasis on budgets. Prepares final grant program budgets and budget amendments as required by grantors.
  • Provide Grant Managers with information related to available funding on their contracts via detailed budget vs actual analysis and light forecasting.
  • Participates in program audits and site visits as requested by the Grant Managers.
  • Monitor regulations and update policies to ensure compliance with current regulations. Communicate policies and procedures related to grants funds for review and implementation by Grant Managers.
  • Supports outsourced finance team, Accounts Payable Specialist and cross trains on duties of these positions.
  • Assist with project management and implementation
  • Assist with various projects as requested by the Executive Director and Program Officer.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance with three plus years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of general accounting principles and procedures related to federal and other related grants, government accounting and auditing, and budget analysis and monitoring.
  • Knowledge of budget preparation and administration, financial record keeping and reporting.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of contract/grant administration and monitoring.
  • Proficiency in spreadsheets, word processing and accounting software (preferably Intacct)
  • Strong work ethic with a defined sense of urgency, ownership, and accountability for job duties.
  • Strong problem solving skills.
  • Ability to deal sensitively with confidential material.
