General Summary: This position will coordinate and become the expert and contact for several student account programs, ensuring compliance with institutional, state, federal and/or agency requirements, including representing the university at on and off campus events. The position ensures compliance by understanding and accurately applying federal, state and institutional regulations that govern the proper distribution of financial aid, and correct cash management procedures; this includes understanding how these transactions affect the general ledger. In addition, this position will respond to inquiries from students, parents and agencies, answering questions ranging from routine processing inquiries to advising families on complex application, eligibility, and program-specific requirements. This position works in a high volume, fast-paced environment where accuracy and high attention to detail is critical as they serve undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, prospective, and continuing professional education students, alumni, parents, faculty and staff.
Accurately process payments up to 1 million daily. Manages and reconciles assigned student account programs, including maintaining current procedures of assigned programs.
May supervise, train, delegate and mentor student worker(s).
Uses professional judgment to make decisions on institutional policy exceptions. Researches situations and communicates options and outcomes to students and parents.
Provides timely and accurate response to inquiries via telephone, in person, mail and email regarding all aspects of a student's financial situation based on a comprehensive understanding of the complete financial aid process, federal, state and institutional financial aid programs, institutional charges, the statement process and the Banner computer system.
Responsible for $350.00 cash till and accurately reconciling payment intake to computer records on a daily basis.
Effectively works with people from diverse backgrounds. Develops and nurtures relationships with students and families of culturally and/or ethnically diverse backgrounds through culturally responsive conversations and outreach events.
Represents the University and SFS in on and off campus events and presentations.
Performs other related duties as assigned
Associates Degree or equivalent experience required. Bachelor's degree is preferred.
Two years of office experience is required.
Aptitude for computerized record-keeping, ability to organize and manage processes, excellent written and verbal communication, public relations and counseling skills.
Understanding and interest in customer service, including the ability to defuse tension.
Self-motivated and team oriented (cooperative, willing, flexible). Ability to cope with stress in a positive manner.
Strong attention to detail. Ability to juggle multiple tasks and flexibility to handle competing priorities with professionalism. Ability to work within structure and deadlines. Analytical with strong problem solving skills.
Sensitivity regarding confidential information.
Experience with basic accounting, previous experience working in a college or university, familiarity with student accounts and financial aid programs (state and federal) and experience and comfort creating and giving presentations is a plus.
Proficient with Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Word and Excel. Experience with Banner (Elucian) a plus.
Position will remain open until filled.
Salary: $40,536 annually
This is a full time position with excellent benefits. SPU pays the employee premium for medical, dental, and vision insurance. SPU makes contributions to an employee HSA account and to a retirement account after one year of eligibility in the plan.
