ABOUT GALLOPNYC

GallopNYC has been serving people with disabilities in New York City since 2005 thanks to our amazing herd of 40 wonderful horses. The ideal therapy horse is sound, has an unflappable temperament and unlimited heart. Our horses come from many different backgrounds including the show ring, the amateur circuit and the racetrack. Keeping our equine educators happy and healthy is a priority, as the horses are the true heroes of our programs. GallopNYC offers Equine therapy and recreational horseback riding at 4 NYC sites including Forest Hills, Howard Beach, the Bronx and Brooklyn.

GallopNYC seeks an ED driven by our mission:  to use therapeutic horsemanship to help riders with disabilities in NYC walk, talk and learn, inspiring them to live their lives as fully, independently and productively as possible. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director serves as chief executive of GallopNYC. In partnership with the Board, the Executive Director is responsible for accomplishing the mission, vision, and short/long-term strategic goals of GallopNYC. The Executive Director is responsible for the management of all aspects of the organization, including, but not limited to, strategic planning, fundraising, budgets and financial management, program development and expansion, human and equine resource management, relationship building, and reputational matters.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership

•       Carries out GallopNYC’s strategic mission, vision, and drive for growth and sustainability.

•       Manages the organization’s financial, physical and human resources, ensuring policies are in place and executed to protect GallopNYC’s resources, riders, staff, and horses.

•       Leads by example and policy in establishing a culture embracing GallopNYC’s values throughout.

 

Fund Development

•       Works in tandem with the Senior Director of Development to grow the capacity of GallopNYC.

•       Partners with the Board to achieve our mission by engaging a wide range of donors and partners.

•       Recognizes and capitalizes on opportunities to create new revenue sources.

 

Communication and Advocacy

•       Serves as spokesperson for GallopNYC, increasing awareness and public education/advocacy.

•       Insures and leads the staff to actively participate in increasing awareness and telling the story of GallopNYC to our stakeholders.

•       Communicates and expands the reach of GallopNYC’s mission.

•       Oversees marketing and public relations activities to responsibly maintain GallopNYC’s visibility and reputation.

 

Board Relations

•       Works with the Board in setting strategic direction, identifying long-range needs, and charting a path of growth to achieve GallopNYC’s mission and vision

•       Establishes and maintains a close and productive relationship with the Board of Directors.

•       Participates in the development, training, recruitment, and orientation of Board members.

 

Financial Management

•       Creates a budget for board review and approval

•       In partnership with staff and the Board’s special committees, develop and maintain policies and procedures to ensure sound financial practices, reporting, and controls.

•       Ensures that operations stay within budget guidelines.

 

Program and Organizational Management

•       Develops, communicates, and implements an annual operating plan.

•       Ensures that GallopNYC maintains the highest standards of safety and quality with respect to program and service, including standards for accreditation through PATH International, and other credentialing organizations.

•       Maintains official records and documents, and ensures compliance with federal, state and local regulations.

•       Supervises staff and operations at multiple sites in NYC; regular travel to the sites required

 

Staff Development and Supervision

•       Maintains a culture which attracts, sustains, and motivates a diverse team of staff and volunteers.

•       Ensures sound human resource practices are in place.

•       Provides leadership in offering development and growth opportunities to staff and volunteers.

•       Puts in place a succession plan for the whole organization.

 

QUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS

·       B.A., Masters preferred with relevant proven, strong leadership skills and experience

·       Leading a nonprofit organization with 7+ years of strategic management

·       Personal or professional passion for the mission.

·       Excellent verbal and written communication skills

·       Fluent in database technologies using Salesforce, social media and tech in general

·       Knowledge and experience in fundraising techniques, including major gift fundraising

·       Has strong knowledge of non-profit landscape and best practices, performance metrics and reporting

·       Understands finances. Knows how to budget. Recognizes both financial opportunities and threats.

·       Sufficient horse experience to manage program and barn staff; willing to earn PATH Int’l Certification

•       Has sound judgment - able to sift through alternatives, deliberate collaboratively, and decide.

•       Persistence: Does not let obstacles stand in the way and can persevere through difficult times for the organization.

Salary range: $140,000 - $150,000
