150th Anniversary Director

Holy Names University (HNU) in Oakland, CA, is entering an exciting period of growth it enters its 150th year of empowering a diverse student body for leadership and service. To develop and implement HNU’s ambitious fundraising agenda for its 150th/Sesquicentennial anniversary year, HNU is seeking a temporary, 18-month Director (with potential for a regular position at the end of the term.) In collaboration with HNU’s Advancement team, the Anniversary Director will work to leverage the 150th anniversary to develop and implement giving opportunities during this critical fundraising year. This extraordinary milestone celebration occurs at an optimistic, forward-looking period for HNU.

Reporting to HNU’s Director of Advancement, the Anniversary Director will oversee all Advancement-related 150th/Sesquicentennial efforts, in the months before, during and after the University’s 150th anniversary year. The role will involve developing fundraising opportunities and touchpoints, facilitating 150th-related events and activities, coordinating inter-departmental efforts pertaining to 150th activities, and working with HNU’s in-house marketing team to develop high-quality support collateral to support these efforts. The Anniversary Director will coordinate public-relations efforts with HNU’s marketing team, and, working with HNU’s Advancement team, will develop a robust portfolio of donor support channels for HNU’s 150th anniversary year.

Essential Functions of Position (Including but not limited to):

• Serve on HNU’s Sesquicentennial planning committee.

• Create a project plan of fundraising activities (in collaboration with Sesquicentennial planning committee) with a timeline of activities for the 150th anniversary year, from May 10, 2018 – December, 2019.

• Develop creative strategies for donor/constituent engagement during HNU’s 150th year.

• Liaise with external stakeholders and vendors to facilitate 150th anniversary events and activities.

• Survey donors and alumni to determine levels of interest, and develop engagement strategies.

• Work with campus stakeholders to execute events and activities pertaining to HNU’s 150th celebration.

• Coordinate and oversee HNU’s October, 2018 weekend Homecoming celebration, with a special focus on the 150th anniversary.

• Collaborate with Director of Advancement and HNU Marketing team to develop digital and print collateral pertaining to HNU’s 150th celebration.

• Collaborate with HNU Marketing team in engaging local media outlets to publicize events and activities pertaining to HNU’s 150th anniversary celebration.

• Engage noteworthy speakers and high-profile individuals and create opportunities to invite them to campus during HNU’s 150th year.

• Enhance HNU Advancement team’s opportunities for constituent engagement during the 150th anniversary year.

• Act as primary contact on HNU Advancement team for all Sesquicentennial-related activities.

• Ensure that all events and activities have been successfully executed and completed by December 31, 2019.

• Document and archive all Advancement-related 150th activities.

Minimum Education Required (The need for a certain level of degree should closely correlate with the needs of the position):

Bachelor’s degree

Minimum Experience Required

5+ years’ experience in advancement, development, fundraising, event-planning and/or public relations. Experience with milestone celebrations preferred. Experience in higher education a plus.

Minimum Skills Required:

Basic computer skills

MS Office

Donor/CRM database experience (Raisers’ Edge a plus)

Familiarity with and experience using digital communication and social media platforms

Preferred Skills:

Familiarity with digital marketing software (Constant Contact, Mail Chimp, etc.)

Experience in public relations
