We are currently in search of a Development Manager in Santa Cruz County, CA. This position is currently hybrid, with flexibility between in-person office work and remote work.

SALARY: $60 -70K+

The Development Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing fundraising and development efforts, including the major gifts program, annual giving, special events, marketing and communications strategy, and capital campaigns. The Manager’s primary goal is growing sustainable funding streams. The Manager is strategic, autonomous, forward-thinking, highly relational, and passionate about delivering results to advance their mission. The Manager is a member of the Leadership Team and works closely with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors and manages the Development Coordinator. The Development Team is responsible for raising close to 70% of the annual budget.

●Knowledge of website management preferred

●Proficiency in using the Adobe Creative Suite, a plus

●Knowledge of the philanthropic and business landscape of Santa Cruz and Monterey Counties, a plus


How You Will Spend Your Day:

Planning, Goal Setting, and Performance Management

● Develops, implements, manages, and evaluates a fundraising plan, guiding the focus of development activities in support of the Strategic Plan and in collaboration with the Executive Director (ED) and Board of Directors (Board)

●Establishes performance measures, monitors results, and prepares reports to help the ED and Board evaluate the effectiveness of development program

●In partnership with the ED, ensures that the Board, program staff, and finance management staff are appropriately informed about and adequately equipped to act on fundraising goals and work plans

●Recruits, manages, and trains all volunteers on the fund development team, including the orientation of board members to their fundraising responsibilities

●Oversees development systems, including gift processing in a manner consistent with IRS requirements

●Supervises and conducts the Performance Review for the Development Coordinator

Donor Relations

●Develops, implements, manages, and evaluates

●A donor relations program that targets all levels of giving and engagement

● A program for research, identification, cultivation, proposal development, solicitation, and stewardship of individual, corporate, and foundation major gifts

●A plan to increase income from pledges and recurring giving

● A communications plan, including donor engagement via email and social media outlets


●Oversees and helps to execute, either virtual or in-person the planning, implementation, and evaluation of these events.

●Oversees the development and maintenance of written procedures, timelines, and contracts for events


●Partners with and/or assists the ED to produce grant proposals and reports for private and government funders, tailored to fit specific program areas and interests of the funders.
