Genesys Works is a nationally renowned nonprofit organization that transforms the lives of underserved high school students through skills training, meaningful internships, and impactful relationships. Since its inception, Genesys Works has helped thousands of economically-disadvantaged high school students transition into young professionals who enter and thrive in the economic mainstream. In the past 15 years, Genesys Works has experienced tremendous success and growth. In 2008, Genesys Works proved the model was scalable by successfully replicating it in Minneapolis/St. Paul. It subsequently expanded into Chicago in 2010. In 2012 Genesys Works - Bay Area opened in San Francisco, expanded to Oakland in 2014, and opened its San Jose office in 2016.
Genesys Works Bay Area seeks a Director of Development to serve as a member of the leadership team. Working closely with the Board of Directors and staff, s/he will hold primary responsibility for creating and managing a multi-year fund development plan designed to meet the organization’s annual contributed income budget (approximately $2M) through the solicitation of major gifts, corporate and foundation support, federal and state grants, and special events. It is expected that the amount raised by Genesys Work -- Bay Area (GWBA) will increase in future years as the Director of Development systematically and effectively strengthens the organization's overall fundraising capacity. Institutional gifts currently account for 90% of contributed income; the goal is to increase individual giving to represent 30% of contributed income over the next five years.
The Director of Development will manage a Development and Marketing Manager and Development Associate, and have ultimate responsibility for designing and implementing the marketing and communications plan for GWBA to support all resource development of the organization, including philanthropic, corporate clients and board development.
The ideal candidate will bring the following experience:
Current knowledge of fundraising trends;
Experience working with philanthropic and corporate leaders;
Orientation towards donor desires and concerns, a natural style of stewardship;
Comfort and adeptness with new technology and social media;
Working knowledge of contact management database systems (Salesforce preferred);
Active listening skills; and
Analytic orientation towards the data of development progress and outcomes.
An undergraduate degree is required; a graduate degree is a strong plus.
This position can be based in San Francisco, East Bay or South Bay.
