Special Compliance Analyst: Complaints and Investigations

 

DEPARTMENT: Special Compliance

JOB STATUS: Full-Time

SALARY RANGE: $55,000 - $60,000

The NYC Campaign Finance Board (CFB), a nonpartisan, independent city agency that enhances the role of New York City residents in elections, seeks an analyst for its Special Compliance Unit. The analyst will work primarily on complex compliance issues, including complaints alleging violations of campaign finance law, review of candidate financial filings, and investigations beyond the scope of the CFB’s routine audits. The analyst must be capable of mastering and communicating legal concepts but need not be an attorney. The analyst may also be assigned tasks pertaining to the Special Compliance Unit’s other responsibilities and will work with staff in other units. Responsibilities:

·     Handle all administrative matters regarding complaints and investigations, including triage, records management, and correspondence.

·     Conduct internal and external research concerning complaints, investigations, and audits.

·     Contact contributors, vendors and other parties as required.

·     Analyze campaign finance data and related documentation and records.

·     Compile documents in response to internal and external requests.

·     Make and manage investigative recommendations.

·     Work with contract investigators and other outside parties as required.

 

Essential Skills:

·     Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

·     Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to summarize and present complex information.

·     Able to meet rigid deadlines both independently and working with a variety of staff.

·     Strong work ethic and meticulous attention to detail.

·     Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

 

Qualifications:

·     Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years work experience; or a satisfactory combination of education and experience. JD or other advanced degree a plus.

·     Background or interest in politics and government.

·     Previous experience working on political campaigns, reporting, or analyzing campaign finance activity, and/or conducting complex research or investigations preferred.

·     Ability to speak Spanish or another language spoken widely in NYC a plus.

·     Ability to work overtime when required.

·     Pursuant to Department of Citywide Administrative Services Commissioner’s Directive No. 2020-20 (concerning the Recruitment of Personnel During the Covid-19 Crisis), New York City residency must be obtained within six months after Emergency Executive Order No.98 is rescinded. If that time period has passed, residency must be obtained within 90 days of the start date.
