Location: 2134 Richmond Terrace, Staten Island, NY 10302 and mobile food pantry locations

Position Status: Full-Time

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Pay Rate: $36,500 annually; excellent benefits package

Community Health Action of Staten Island (CHASI) drives dramatic improvements in the health of New Yorkers by feeding people who are hungry, healing families broken apart by violence, and bridging the gaps between people and the compassionate health care they deserve. CHASI serves the most vulnerable individuals, families, and communities with critical services and programs. CHASI provides outreach, education, prevention, and direct support services for populations most affected by health disparities – the poor and working poor, low income people with chronic illnesses, persons with criminal justice involvement, substance users, domestic violence survivors, people of color, and the LGBTQ community.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Community Food Pantry runs on a client choice model that replicates a true shopping experience for our clients. The Pantry works in collaboration with other CHASI services on and off-site, where Pantry clients are often referred. This position includes particular responsibilities regarding volunteer engagement and oversight at the food pantry and/or mobile food pantry. Pantry Community Engagement Specialist will assist with operations at the Community Food Pantry and/or Mobile Food Pantry while providing clients and staff with information and materials related to COVID-19 prevention in conjunction with CHASI's Test and Trace T2 initiative.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Preparation and coordination of the Community Food Pantry and/or Mobile Food Pantry.
  • Provide clerical support and perform administrative duties related to the Food Pantry Program.
  • Attend related trainings on food handling, food safety, and nutrition.
  • Welcome Pantry clients, conduct intake screenings for new clients, and record services in database.
  • Guide consumers through their pantry shopping experience.
  • Assist Pantry staff with supply requisition, food ordering, and reporting.
  • Serve as Site Monitor for the Pantry and/or Mobile Food Pantry by providing daily COVID-19 health screening for employees and visitors, completing screening logs, sending in documentation on a daily basis, and ensuring all COVID-19 safety protocols are being followed at all times.
  • Perform clerical and administrative duties related to the Pantry and T2 Programs (i.e. filing, copies, etc.).
  • Accept pantry deliveries, pick up/receiving, stock shelves, keep temperature logs, keep inventory, and maintain an organized pantry.
  • Install T2 promotion posters throughout community.
  • Build and nurture relations with Pantry and/or T2 community stakeholders.
  • Provide needed testing referral and resource information as well as linkage to CHASI and Sun River Health services as indicated.
  • Deliver community-based education and risk reduction education and materials to targeted populations and the community.
  • Be the on-site expert for COVID-19 risk reduction education and resources.
  • Provide direct follow up with identified COVID-19 positive persons to provide further referrals and to support compliance with Test and Trace Corps.
  • Complete accurate documentation of all Pantry and T2 activity and ensure that activity is reflected in the agency's database.
  • Complete daily and weekly productivity reports.
  • Attend contractual and agency training to maintain information updates on relevant issues
  • Align all activities with CHASI's mission, core values, and culture.
  • Other duties as assigned.



QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) REQUIRED.
  • Must be available to work Tuesday through Saturday, and a flexible 40 hour week, required.
  • Demonstrated experience successfully engaging communities through community-based outreach.
  • Must be comfortable with and able to clearly convey information to diverse groups and individuals.
  • Familiarity with and connection to communities in Staten Island preferred.
  • Strong commitment to serving marginalized populations, understanding of stigma, and ability to work with individuals with diverse backgrounds, abilities, experiences, and talents.
  • Clean driver's license required.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain a Food Handlers Certification.
  • Must be able to lift at least 30 lbs comfortably and stand for long periods of time.
