Over 24,000 adults in Washington state have intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), with approximately 6,600 residing in King County. Many seek a life independent from their family and require reliable housing to pursue their goals of lifelong learning, self-reliance, and the ability to participate in their community. The need for housing for adults with I/DD is great: availability is scarce.
Community Homes (CH) believes all adults with developmental disabilities deserve rich and meaningful lives in the community. Established in 1995, CH provides, promotes, and sustains exceptional community-based housing for adults with I/DD. CH secures and manages adult family homes (AFH), shared living arrangements, and supports live-in, licensed care providers to ensure continuity of care.
CH owns and operates nine (9) community-based adult family homes serving forty-five (45) residents in King County. These five (5) person, DSHS licensed, residential homes provide housing for clients who are low income and rely on Medicaid funding. CH growth continued during the pandemic and added two (2) AFHs in 2021. CH also manages smaller, two or three- resident shared living households. Shared living relies on Section 8 subsidies and Medicaid Personal Care for the care provider. CH owns one shared living home and facilitates others.
CH's robust housing education workshop series helps families learn about the intricacies of the housing journey and related services for adults with I/DD. This state-wide innovative program reaches over 500 individuals annually, empowering them to locate or develop new community-based housing for their family members with I/DD.
CH is governed by a diverse board of nine (9) members with a staff of ten (10) administrative employees, and ten (10) live-in caregivers. It has an annual budget of over $1.2M and approximately $10M in assets. CH's Executive Director for the past 10+ years is prepared to welcome and transition its next leader. With over 25 years of history, a committed and experienced team, a solid financial position, and a dynamic and engaged board, CH is well-positioned for the future.
