American Museum Of Natural History

Biodiversity Scientist

The Center for Biodiversity and Conservation (CBC) works to transform knowledge, from multiple sources and perspectives, into conservation action. Our work encompasses three focal areas: multi- or inter-disciplinary research on biodiversity that is linked to conservation action or outcomes; capacity development for conservation; and convening and connecting of multiple audiences and actors for conservation problem-solving, including through effective communication and collaboration. We aim to draw on multiple strands of knowledge, and engage diverse communities of expertise when approaching complex conservation challenges, as well as advance diversity, inclusion, and equity in the field of conservation towards a culturally vibrant conservation workforce.

The Biodiversity/Environmental Social Scientist will lead cutting-edge conservation research that is expected to integrate and advance work along all three of our focal areas of work. Their research and activities are expected to strategically expand the CBC's impact and project portfolio while supporting our goals and strategies, as well as have the potential to increase synergies with other areas of AMNH science, and establish or strengthen local or regional collaborations.

Required Qualifications:

• Masters Degree in social or natural sciences and demonstrated interest in integrating biological and social science perspectives to advance biodiversity conservation research and action.

• Vibrant research program, evidenced through either published research products (or a strong pipeline of upcoming publications), or significant contributions to conservation outcomes.

• Demonstrated experience with research fundraising processes, including grants and interactions with donors.

• Demonstrated organizational and project management skills, and ability to work collaboratively.

• Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in social or natural sciences strongly preferred.
