Job Description

The Reasonable Accommodation (“RA”) Specialist will be responsible for processing employees’ requests for reasonable accommodation pursuant to the City of New York’s Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Policy, the City of New York’s Reasonable Accommodation Procedural Guidelines, and the Administration for Children’s Services’ (“ACS”) Policy for Providing Disability-Related Reasonable Accommodation to Job Applicants and Employees. The RA Specialist will be knowledgeable about various employment discrimination laws, such as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the NYS Human Rights Law, and the NYC Human Rights Law.


The RA Specialist’s duties will include, but not be limited to:

·      Process employees’ reasonable accommodation requests

·      Interview, collect, and analyze information to evaluate employees’ reasonable accommodation requests

·      Act as a liaison between the Office of EEO, employees, other ACS divisions, and third parties outside ACS in the resolution of employees’ reasonable accommodation requests

·      Train staff on matters related to employment discrimination, reasonable accommodation and related human rights issues

·      Track and monitor reasonable accommodation

·      Prepare reports

·      Perform other related functions as may be required.

 

Minimum Qual Requirements

1. Admission to the New York State Bar; and either "2" or "3" below.

2. One year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any state bar; or

3. Six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Interne (30086). 


Incumbents must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment.


In addition to meeting the minimum Qualification Requirements:


To be assigned to Assignment Level (AL) II, candidates must have one year of experience at Assignment Level I or two years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment. To be assigned to AL III candidates must have two years of experience in Assignment Levels I and/or II or three years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment.

 

Additional Information

Section 424-A of the New York Social Services Law requires an authorized agency to inquire whether a candidate for employment with child-caring responsibilities has been the subject of a child abuse and maltreatment report.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.
