The Portfolio Investing team’s focus is to identify and support a portfolio of organizations demonstrating outstanding performance in four key areas: impact, equity and proximity, leadership, and sustainability. Our role is to identify the most promising social entrepreneurs and organizations for investment, ensure that we are providing them with excellent capacity building support, and develop and continually refine a set of tools and processes that support our grantees and the portfolio team in capturing their progress and our value add. 


ABOUT THE SYSTEMIC SOLUTIONS INITIATIVE

Building on 20+ years of experience backing breakthrough social entrepreneurs and social impact initiatives, New Profit’s Systemic Solutions Initiative aims to strengthen the nation’s capacity to solve pressing social problems systematically through three key objectives:

  • Identify and invest in promising “system entrepreneurs” who have the potential to create nationally significant systemic impact
  • Develop frameworks and tools needed to advise and scale high-potential systems change initiatives
  • Foster a learning community of like-minded systems change actors (e.g., funders, entrepreneurs, and practitioners)

POSITION DESCRIPTION

New Profit is looking for a strategic, adaptive, collaborative, and analytic problem-solver that is excited to explore innovative and transformative social change approaches and models. As a key member of the Systemic Solutions Initiative Team, the Associate will provide strong project management, coordination and operational support across SSI’s workstreams. This position will also play an important role in supporting network management and initiative management goals and objectives.


WHAT YOU WILL DO

Program Coordination & Implementation:  Support designing and implementing high quality cohort-based programming including in-person and virtual convenings; conduct trend analysis; support the development of content to address specific challenges faced by portfolio organizations; support portfolio organizations as new opportunities and challenges arise; support the portfolio organization’s ability to access New Profit resources.

Initiative Support & Logistics: Manage logistics of regular SSI team meetings; manage scheduling for the team, including internal and external meetings; provide team management, project management, and coordination support to the Systemic Solutions Initiative’s leads, along with handling other operational duties as needed; support the development, management, and implementation of the initiative's external and internal communications efforts. 

Field Engagement & Network Management: Support programming design and implementation for learning community events (including in-person convenings and webinars); facilitate relationships among learning community members; develop communications materials that share progress and best practices with key field actors, such as funders, entrepreneurs, partners, etc.

Investment Selection & Support: Assist in the development and maintenance of a strong, robust pipeline of potential portfolio organizations and ensure tracking of updated information in our database systems; participate in screening and diligence activities to assess the strength of candidate organizations as new portfolio investments and include high quality materials (memos and presentations) to present findings and analysis on prospective grantees.


WHO YOU ARE

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience providing effective support and team coordination, (either as full-time staff or as an intern) in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial setting (e.g., nonprofit program management, philanthropy, management consulting, etc.)
  • Adaptable and able to manage multiple, changing priorities and stakeholders
  • Effective at building relationships and collaborative work environments
  • Strong analytical skills to identify trends and develop solutions
  • Engaging, clear verbal and written communication skills
  • Creative, learning-oriented problem solver
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Strong self and project management skills
  • Collaborative team player willing to go above and beyond their job description for the success of New Profit and our grantee-partners
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office programs


STARTING SALARY: $47,000
