ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:

The Dalio Foundation’s (DF) Education Team works to strengthen public education in Connecticut by engaging with educators, community leaders, and young people to achieve positive outcomes and greater equity across the state. Under Barbara Dalio’s leadership, the education portfolio reflects a holistic approach to philanthropy, which includes championing public school educators and communities and helping high school-­aged youth realize their potential. To learn more, visit: www.daliophilanthropies.org.


In Connecticut, 39,000 high school-­aged youth are disengaged or disconnected from school, equaling more than one in five high school students. The need is widespread, affecting nearly all communities in the state. Helping youth connect to success would lead to stronger schools, higher employment, fewer cases of incarceration or addiction, healthier and more prosperous communities, and more rapid and sustained economic growth.


To achieve these benefits, the Education Team works with educators and non-­profit leaders to advance the Connecticut RISE Network, the Connecticut Opportunity Project, and several passion projects benefiting students, educators, and communities. The Education Team is entrepreneurial and collaborative, striving to amplify its impact beyond direct philanthropic initiatives to build broader momentum for systemic improvements that support the needs of every young person in Connecticut.


ABOUT THE POSITION:

Reporting to the Chief Education Officer and working closely with Barbara Dalio, the Director of the Connecticut Opportunity Project will focus on achieving positive youth outcomes in collaboration with the Opportunity Project’s partner organizations. Bringing together educators, non-­profit leaders, youth counselors, mentors, mayors, and young people, the Opportunity Project is a collaborative endeavor to unleash the tremendous untapped potential of young people who are disengaged or disconnected from high schools in Connecticut. As part of the DF’s long-term commitment to the Opportunity Project and the youth it serves, DF is focused on using evidence to continuously improve the initiative with its partners to achieve breakthrough results for youth. In September 2016, DF released a report entitled Untapped Potential to define and spotlight needs and opportunities around disengaged and disconnected youth in Connecticut. This report also kicked off a statewide design challenge to identify partners to launch the Opportunity Project. Now in its second year of programming and partnership, DF seeks a dynamic leader to accelerate the Opportunity Project’s impact. Specifically, DF seeks an experienced, passionate, and highly motivated natural collaborator who has an established track record of effectively leading significant initiatives and teams to achieve positive outcomes for high school-aged youth. A successful candidate must have proven skills in facilitation, as well as earned credibility in the field.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


Strategy

  • Support the Chief Education Officer as a trusted deputy and thought partner in designing and executing the immediate and long­‐term strategy for the Opportunity Project, while identifying new opportunities for growth and impact consistent with Barbara Dalio’s vision and goals.
  • Collect, analyze, and use data to make strategic decisions regarding the Opportunity Project’s theory of change, investments, and programming.


Network Leadership

  • Develop and implement a research-­based learning agenda, inclusive of a set of questions, activities, and products to enhance the Opportunity Project’s impact.
  • Lead a collaborative process with the DF Education Team to plan and deliver bi‐annual Partner Summits to inspire, energize, and challenge practitioners while strengthening collective impact.
  • Promote community-­wide knowledge sharing by facilitating the exchange of ideas and making connections across partner organizations.
  • Design and facilitate partner‐driven collaborations and workshops, resulting in innovations and problem-­solving to further shared goals.


Program Leadership

  • Provide embedded coaching to support partner organizations in strengthening their theories of change and aligned programmatic interventions.
  • Cultivate collaborative and productive relationships with non-­profit leaders and youth development specialists.
  • Support partner teams in implementing innovative approaches to empower young people, leading to positive youth outcomes.
  • Collect, analyze, and use data to continuously refine and improve program design and effectiveness.


Portfolio Management

  • Lead significant and complex work streams within the Opportunity Project while overseeing multiple major grant partnerships and initiatives through all stages of the grantmaking lifecycle.
  • Advance bi-­annual performance review cycles with the DF Education Team to monitor and improve the overall performance of the education portfolio.
  • Collaborate with DF teams to recruit vendors, initiate contracts, and manage all vendor relationships in support of the Opportunity Project.


CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:

The ideal candidate will possess the following professional qualifications:

  • 10+ years of programmatic leadership experience required, with at least 5+ years of direct experience supporting high school-­aged youth, strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree required and advanced degree in a relevant field strongly preferred.
  • Experience leading major initiatives and teams of internal and external partners to achieve positive youth outcomes.
  • Deep, nuanced understanding of public education and youth development, including a strong network of professional contacts within these fields.
  • Experience navigating complex environments and conversations with the cultural competency to work across diverse populations and the ability to build meaningful relationships with Opportunity Project stakeholders (e.g. partners, local policymakers, practitioners, and community stakeholders).

LOCATION: Greenwich, Connecticut with significant in-state travel.
