Sanctuary for Families is New York's leading service provider and advocate for survivors of domestic violence, sex trafficking and related forms of gender violence. We provide wrap-around services to help survivors rebuild their lives in the aftermath of abuse, and work to end gender violence through three key strategies: direct services, outreach and training, and systems-change advocacy.

Sanctuary is seeking a Supervising Social Worker in our Children and Family Services program to oversee our clinical programming at the Queens Family Justice Center. The Supervisor will oversee a team of clinicians and programming on site.

  • Oversees all aspects of Sanctuary for Families' clinical Children and Family Services at the Queens Family Justice Center
  • Provides clinical and administrative supervision of Counselor, Children's Activity Coordinator, student interns, and volunteers
  • Coordinates internal and external referrals to the Children and Family Services program at the Family Justice Center and assigns cases
  • Collaborates closely with Sanctuary for Families' legal program at the Queens Family Justice Center
  • Conducts Family Assessments for children referred for counseling
  • Provides individual counseling to a caseload of children and teens who have witnessed domestic violence or experienced violence
  • Develops and facilitates children's support groups, and child-centered psycho-educational groups for parents
  • Makes referrals and provides advocacy for children and families
  • Develops appropriate interventions to meet clients' varying needs
  • Develops and provides training and community outreach
  • Attends required meetings including Sanctuary for Families meetings, Family Justice Center meetings and other partner organization meetings
  • Maintains case files, notes and statistics for program and reviews those of onsite staff
  • Responsible for all reporting procedures with regard to the Children and Family Services program at the Queens Family Justice Center
  • Collaborates and consults with Development Department on grants and funding proposals and reports
  • Participates in weekly supervision. Completes reports as required
  • Performs any other department or agency-related duties or special projects as directed by supervisor

  • LMSW with supervisory experience, LCSW strongly preferred
  • At least two years of experience providing clinical services to children and youth
  • Experience in developing and overseeing programs
  • Strong clinical skills and knowledge in play therapy and other Evidence Based Interventions, such as TF-CBT and/or CPP, being certified preferred.
  • Knowledge of child development and family systems theories and frameworks
  • Experience working with victims of domestic violence or knowledge of dynamics of domestic violence
  • Spanish fluency preferred
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to take on a wide range of administrative tasks
  • Strong organizational skills required
  • Ability to function independently and also work on a team
  • Ability to work two evenings a week and to maintain a flexible work schedule
