Established in 1946, Magen David Yeshivah (MDY) is an Orthodox Jewish Yeshivah rooted in Sephardic tradition and Jewish law. Our mission is to develop broadly educated, ethical, self-confident, and compassionate Torah-observant Jews, committed to lifelong learning, community service, and personal growth. As a community, we equip our students with the ability to confidently interact with an ever-changing modern world through the prism of Torah values, and to cultivate within them a deep understanding of and love for the people, land, and State of Israel.

The focus of our program’s curricula is to develop each child’s individual potential, and it is our responsibility as an institution to guide each child throughout their journey of wonder and learning. The school promotes the development of interpersonal relationships amongst children and adults in order to nurture children’s innate curiosity, sense of discovery, and lifelong love of learning.

MDY is seeking a passionate, thoughtful, and forward-thinking Director to join their educational leadership team. The Director is a full-time, on-site, year-round position that demonstrates leadership abilities by directing daily operations of the school including policy implementation, curriculum coordination, development of a stimulating learning environment for faculty, children and families enrolled, and creation of a warm sense of community and learning. 


Responsibilities:  

Program Management and Oversight:

• Inspire a best-in-class, joyful and traditions-based approach to early childhood Judaic studies. 

• Oversee all aspects of daily school operations for the Early Childhood program spanning children from 18 months to 5 years.

• Cultivate innovation and creativity in the classrooms and programs.

• Stay current on issues and trends in Early Childhood education; and serve as a resource to educators and families in Jewish Early Childhood Education by providing literature, facilitating conversation and community resources.

• Assist in the development and implementation of a comprehensive Early Childhood curriculum.

• Model best practices within and outside the classroom, including but are not limited to classroom management, diverse learning needs, and emotional responsive practice.

• Oversee the assessment of child development and progress.

• Work with Admissions team to help market and grow the program, support enrollment, and ensure student retention.  

• Build an effective relationship with Board of Trustees and provide regular feedback and updates on school milestones, and help build consensus for positive change.

People Management:

• Responsible for the hiring, training and supervision of faculty, and for providing opportunities for professional growth and development.

• Serve as a mentor and provide support to teachers on best teaching practices, implementing learning experiences for students and daily routines.

• Lead various meetings and professional development seminars, including weekly teacher planning meetings, age group meetings and individual reflective supervision with teachers.

• Lead and meet with parents to identify challenges, build relationships and ensure the best education for students. Conduct school tours & respond to questions. Cultivate and maintain solid parent partnerships through open door, responsive, proactive communication.

Daily Operations:

• Ensure all state, local, Board of Education, Board of Health , Universal Pre-K, and internal policies and regulations are followed and maintained. Provide regular updates on changes and compliance mandates.

• Maintain confidentiality of all information related to children, families and staff.  

• Support and organize purchasing needs for school supplies and materials.

• Work to ensure budget requirements are met. 


Qualifications: 

• Master’s Degree in Childhood Education or related field required, minimum of 5 years’ experience managing and directing a childhood education program or school.

• Classroom experience teaching in an early childhood environment; preferably experience within a progressive early childhood philosophy (constructivist; emergent; Reggio-Emilia).  

• Strong understanding of child development, inquiry-based learning and experience with expertise in child-centric curriculum development and implementation.

• Proven experience with driving innovative and creative initiatives within an educational setting. 

• Knowledge and understanding of Jewish values, culture and traditions; specific training & education experience in early childhood Judaic studies is required.

• Experience with school administration and internal operations.

• Ability to juggle and prioritize multiple initiatives.

• Strong computer skills and ability to learn new technologies. MS Office skills required, proficiency with Excel and spreadsheets required.  

• Collaborative with strong communication skills, interpersonal skills and works well as part of a team. 

• Detail oriented and highly organized. 

• Fluency in Hebrew and English required.


This position requires a local area candidate that can easily commute daily to Brooklyn, NY. The Director is required to be on-site daily.
