Barrett, The Honors College is seeking an Executive Director to oversee the T.W. Lewis Center for Personal Development. The ideal candidate will have a background managing strategic initiatives with an entrepreneurial spirit coupled with a passion for collegiate personal development. This position will report to the Dean of Barrett, The Honors College.
The mission of the T.W. Lewis Center for Personal Development at Barrett is to inspire, educate, and assist students in the achievement of their personal best throughout the journey to success and happiness. The Lewis Center does this through a wide variety of innovative courses, workshops and an engaging speaker series. Offerings by the Lewis Center are exclusively for Barrett students. Although housed on the Tempe Campus of Arizona State University, the Lewis Center serves students on all four of Barrett's and ASU's campus locations (Tempe, Polytechnic, Downtown Phoenix, and West Phoenix).
Sets vision and manages the operations of the T.W. Lewis Center for Personal Development including an annual programming calendar
Oversees course offerings including courses related to self-awareness, personal values, personal character development, leadership, critical thinking, decision-making, risk-taking, career planning, success and happiness
Produces a speaker series and workshop series focused on personal development including programming to educate students in the areas of individual liberty, free-enterprise, personal responsibility, spirituality, family, diversity, community engagement and civic responsibility.
Prepares annual donor report to meet donor and college requirements
Establishes and maintains relationships with community of advocates with Barrett, ASU community and external community, including guest speakers, collaborators and advocates
Develops a comprehensive communications to engage students in personal and professional development activities
Evaluates the impact of professional development courses, workshops and speaker series programs and implements enhancements to continually improve programming quality
Manages the unit's budget and maintain reporting for expenditures for center
Researches and identifies additional funding sources and partnerships for the center
Works with Barrett Technology Office and University Technology Office to maintain events app and T.W. Lewis Center for Personal Development webpage
Develops long- and short-range goals to strategically align center with overall goals of the College and University.
Oversees and participates in the hiring, training and evaluation of the T.W. Lewis Center for Personal Development staff and faculty.
Represents the college/department and serves on various department and university committees. Acts as liaison with faculty, advisors, administrators, and staff from both the university and external organizations.
Serves as representative of the University at state, regional and national organizations, boards, councils, and committees as assigned.
Represents Lewis Center at various College programs (Family Weekend, Convocation, Homecoming, etc.)
Overseeing the development and execution of external contracts and contractors with Lewis Center
Maintains vision of, and relationship with, Lewis Center donor(s)
Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work
Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds
Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities that may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts
Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear to perform essential functions
Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals
Masters degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment, and eight (8) years of related administrative experience which includes five (5) years of supervisory experience; OR, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.
Demonstrated passion for & commitment to the field of personal development
Experience working in or with an Honors College preferred
Knowledge and experience of budget management methods and techniques
Knowledge of management and supervisory principles and practices
Experience managing both staff and/or faculty members
Ability to stimulate and implement organizational change
Strong verbal and written communication including professional presentations and/or public speaking
Evidence of a Master's Degree or higher
A demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion
Experience working with developing relationships with external partners and creating a broad professional network
Strong organizational leadership and management experience
Strong organizational skills
Demonstrated entrepreneurial experience
