Reporting to the Executive Director, and managing most of our director-level staff, this position will hold the big picture of internal JVP and JVPA workflow. The Managing Director will play an essential role in organizational leadership -- ensuring effective departmental and organizational planning and evaluation, facilitating internal coordination, and supporting and building staff teams in a culture committed to liberation, learning and results.

About you

The ideal candidate will bring a passion for distilling ideas into concrete projects, mapping projects into plans, and systematizing tools and processes to make things efficient and manageable. They should bring a balance of detail-orientation, process-nerdiness, and deep strategy skills, all with an understanding that people and relationships are the key to good work and good teams. The Managing Director will be creating cohesion and integration among their peers as well as the people they lead. Genuine and thoughtful, they will hear people’s concerns, find common ground to build a foundation of trust, and inspire engagement in our collective vision of justice, equality and dignity for all people of Palestine/Israel. 

About the role

Highest-level management and supervision

  • Supervise director level staff, and provide cohesive information and process management across core departments.
  • Provide insight to Executive Director, who is responsible for working with directors to set overall strategy and priorities 

Leading Organization-wide Planning, Evaluation, and transparent decision-making: 

  • Facilitate proposal-based decision-making process with staff.
  • Work with directors to ensure each department has detailed work-plans.
  • Create internal processes that improve time, learning loops, communications, clarity, and progress towards goals. 
  • Develop and run planning, tracking, and reporting processes. 
  • Maintain decision log and decision making matrix.

Supporting Healthy Organizational Culture and Putting Core Values into Action: 

  • Work with and support the Racial Justice Transformation team.
  • Lead work-planning and evaluation for full-organization.
  • Develop practices and processes that embed our core values within our work, policies, and the working environment. 

Facilitating Internal Coordination: 

  • Responsible for the staff’s collective understanding of joint goals and workflow
  • Ensure that cross-departmental teams have needed leadership and structure
  • Implement input and feedback systems for staff.

Running Staff-wide calendar, process, workflow: 

  • Develop the rhythm, format and agendas for small group and full staff meetings/retreats/gatherings. 
  • Clarify and enable adoption of standard organizing and document/information systems. 
  • Set up regular use of planning tools.
  • Select/adapt, produce, and organize templates that can be used across projects.
