LPS seeks an experienced, strategic educational leader to serve as its next Superintendent, following a beloved and respected leader.


Leadership Public Schools (“LPS”) is a network of outstanding public charter high schools in the San Francisco Bay Area. Our mission is to create educational equity. We empower students for college, career and community leadership, and share our practices on a national scale.


This is an exciting opportunity to lead an innovative, high functioning Charter Management Organization (CMO), which has benefited from a tenure of steady leadership and stable financials, and take it to the next level of impact. This will also be a unique opportunity to build a national brand and scale the practice, focused on continuing to build on strong community engagement locally and expanding partnerships on a broader scale.

The Superintendent will be a key voice in the discussion of urban education issues and will have the opportunity to create and share equity practices on the local, state, and national level. The Superintendent will build off of LPS's long track record of success in improving student outcomes to continue to move the needle on educational equity in urban schools. This individual will articulate a vision of quality and equity and inspire the LPS community to keep this focus at its core by consciously implementing strategies to disrupt historical patterns of inequity.

Reporting to the LPS Board of Trustees, the Superintendent will have oversight for an operating budget of $20M for a CMO and 3 schools and will directly manage a team of 10 direct reports including the Chief Business Officer, Chief Academic Officer, Chief Talent Officer, Executive Director, Data Assessment, Tiered Support, Directors of Operations, Director of Technology and Facilities, and 3 Principals. With185 employees, LPS has built an environment that fosters creativity and a team that strives for excellence. The Superintendent will manage all aspects of the organization, including academic programming, operations, compliance, finance, talent, fundraising, and community engagement. The Superintendent will be responsible for developing, supporting, and holding accountable every member of the organization's team to meet LPS's goal of empowering students for college, career, and community leadership.

The Superintendent will establish and oversee an aligned instructional system of curriculum, assessment, and instruction that is responsive to the culture, language, and learning profile of each student. This individual will oversee a tiered student support system of academic, behavioral, and emotional supports keyed to the range of student needs and will create a school environment and behavior support system of high expectations, belonging, and future orientation to college, career, and community leadership.

This individual will maintain strong Board relations and adhere to the highest standards of accountability and governance standards. Further, the Superintendent will ensure that strong, sustainable, and transparent fiscal policies and practices are in place and that they are aligned with LPS' equity goals.

The Superintendent will create exceptional human capital processes to attract, retain, and develop all staff and faculty. This process will include a professional development infrastructure of collaboration, training, and coaching, supporting these systems for the full range of staff across all roles. The Superintendent will supervise principals and develop leadership pipelines to ensure LPS continues to build its impressive team.

The Superintendent will be tasked with building relationships and partnering with our local school districts, community organizations, funders, educational non-profits, and state and national education and education reform organizations to advance educational equity in urban schools.
