The Portfolio Investing team’s focus is to identify and support a portfolio of organizations demonstrating outstanding performance in four key areas: impact, equity and proximity, leadership, and sustainability. Our role is to identify the most promising social entrepreneurs and organizations for investment, ensure that we are providing them with excellent capacity building support, and develop and continually refine a set of tools and processes that support our grantees and the portfolio team in capturing their progress and our value add. 

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION

This position represents a key member of the portfolio team, which will focus on a range of critical activities related to the advisory and strategic supports we provide to New Profit grantees. The Portfolio Support team is responsible for developing and evolving our grantee support model, creating tools and trainings for internal team members and our grantee partners on issues of capacity building (strategy, board development, leadership, etc.). The manager will be involved in activities including designing and facilitating bi-weekly meetings for New Profit Partners that provide training and group learning on our grantee support practice, contributing to the development of new tools and trainings for our grantee partners and support virtual and in person sessions with our portfolio of grantees. As part of New Profit’s Portfolio Performance and Support (PPS) team, this position will also play a role in supporting other portfolio functions and activities and overall team goals including performing due diligence on potential grantees and engaging in other special projects. The Manager reports to New Profit Partner Molly O’Donnell and may be asked to manage Associate(s) on the portfolio team.

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Portfolio Support (50-75%) - Manage bi-weekly Partner Meetings including training sessions, group learning discussions, and grantee support problems of practice deep-dives, this includes:
  • Lead process to develop annual Partner Meeting strategy including laying out annual calendar with proposed approach to implementation and adaptation throughout the year 
  • Manage implementation of Partner Meetings including the development of content (pre-reads, facilitation guides, etc.), communicating with stakeholders, and where appropriate facilitating full group conversations 
  • Integrate lessons learned and questions surfaced from Partner meetings with New Profit’s Learning and Improvement work, advancing codification of new insights and tools 
  • ​​​​​​​Portfolio Engagement (10-15%) - Direct Support and engagement with our full portfolio, this includes: 
  • ​​​​​​​Supporting design and execution of virtual and in-person grantee convening such as webinars, community building events, and consultancy sessions
  • Manage outgoing communications to the full portfolio around events related portfolio requests 
  • ​​​​​​​Special Projects Across Portfolio (15-25%) - Special projects within portfolio including:
  • Support signature partnership with Monitor Institute by Deloitte by sourcing projects from grantee-partners and assessing fit for strategic support
  • Engaging in investment selection activities including review and assessment of grantee applications and due diligence activities 
  • Developing and codifying new practices and toolkits as a part of our learning and improvement efforts
  • Directly engaging and developing relationships with internal and external stakeholders on key projects including strategic planning, board development, and more.

  • Demonstrated project management experience; highly organized and detail-oriented Adaptable and able to manage multiple, changing priorities and stakeholders
  • Ability and willingness to switch between work that requires high level strategic thinking, and work that is more focused on logistics, operations, and execution 

 

STARTING SALARY: We are currently hiring for Manager (starting salary: $80,000) and Associate Partner (starting salary: $105,000) level candidates. The level is commensurate with years of experience and skill set.
